Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

+1. The foam and utility of it all depends on the extrusion and design of the window. Sunrise is certainly available as should Soft-Lite be.

I would be cautious with the friend of a family member. That has the potential to end poorly and take down a family relationship in the process.

Re: Insulated Glass Units - Dallas

Most insert application are done in a manner so as to not require drywall work.

I am sure Randy is around and can comment with some familiarity given that he is out of Houston and knows the Texas landscape as it pertains to window suppliers and products.

Re: Performance Grade

It is a good indication of the windows ability to sustain wind load and driving rain.

It is a good summary measurement of the windows overall strength, as an assembly, and its sturdiness.

Good catch HomeSealed. We have seen some of that around these parts of late as well.

Definitely vet this guy well. That price is really below levels that are sustainable in our market.

Re: Is this window glazing?

That is part of the glazing bead. Tough to say as to where to get. Can you find out the maker of the window? That is the best place to start.

Re: MA - New to Windows, help with brands

Why that interface isn't very helpful is demonstrated here. Half of them probably aren't available in your area without jumping through some hoops and several of them are mediocre at best. I would start with a local search and ask around to friends or family. Keep in mind that a "quality built produ...

With the triple pane add in, it seems (depending on the installation) like a pretty good number.

Re: Philly Suburb window replacement help

Its not my favorite, but if it is installed well...its a decent window. It will fall short on some of the higher end data points out there.
