Re: DP50 Sash Kits?

Do the windows have storms on them? If so, the net visual, even with a proper replacement window, will be that the window feels larger.

Re: Is this a good install??

I am guessing that drip cap flashing was already there and part of the siding. In that case, the install, far as I can tell from the pictures, looks OK.

Re: Exterior detail trim

Any pictures? If you are bending some coil as a general rule, best bet it to make it as seamless as possible. Multiple joints and stitched together with caulking rarely make for great finished look.

For an impact window, I would imagine that 1K and above is the starting point.

Re: Replacement door time

So far you have two at one range and one outlier. If you get a 3rd and it tends towards the other two, you can probably the outlier out.

Re: Replacement door time

Provia is not what you find in the big box stores. Quite a big difference between those products and there is NO situation in which you are pricing up 5 Provia full lite doors for 6K...on materials alone.

Pretty sure the 6K guy is way off. For 5 exterior door with glass, its functionally impossible.

Re: Replacement Windows for Urban Noise in SoCal

Anything in the middle to high 30's is going to be such an improvement, you are going to be over the moon with the performance. The QuietLine is a great window, but its pretty bulky and not cheap. Honestly, the STC of 40 is a great number and will be probably a 4X improvement over what you have now.

Re: Help with new windows

+1 to the trend line you are on. For the super energy focused, rigid foam is nice, but does come with it...some additional details and difficulties. Totally doable if the siding installer has done it before and understands where all the problem areas and hiccups are. While it does help, quite a bit,...

Can't add anything to the technical assessment that HomeSealed laid out. It's spot on.

I would also recommend that you give Paul at AGM a ring too. Solid guy who runs a great shop there. Can't go wrong with those folks.

Re: Finding U Factor of Sunrise Sliders and Picture windows with AR90 and KR90 Package

The manufacturer should be able to easily provide you with the air infiltration data. That will be the same for the specific operators regardless of glass package. Obviously the air leakage number on the picture window is not of a concern. Sliders and Double Hungs (of the commonly used operators) wi...
