Re: vinyl sill expander pieces - where to purchase?

Harvey is sold via distributors at this point. I would call them first and see who they have in your area as a retailer and then inquire there. Should be easy enough to get and they might have some in stock for that matter. Lastly, you can also make them out of coil stock if you have access to a bra...

Re: Anlin Catalina vs Monteverde Bay View with upgrades

Not familiar with the "fire" codes down there. Anlin seems to get pretty good reviews, but to be honest, its not a window that I have seen or know personally. Do you have some issues with sound? I know nothing about the other brand in comparison. The window extrusions look to be about the same to be...

Re: Austin area - many questions about replacement windows (long)

The frame on the Simonton is, to put it bluntly, bulky.

Is the Soft-Lite Elements available there in Austin. It also runs a bit thicker than the Sunrise, but has some nice bevels to the frame that soften that dimension.

Re: Austin, Tx Replacement Windows

What did you like so far?

The Simonton 5500 is plenty sturdy, but will give about the exact opposite feel of a sleek fiberglass window. Fiberglass is nice, but will come at a definite premium and if the look isn't what you are really wanting, you are spending more than you need to.

Re: Looking for noise suppression

IGU = Insulated Glass Unit (i.e. the double pane glass unit...just the glass). Laminated glass does help. I just find that the low frequency drone of traffic is the hardest to get out. If you are more concerned about the motorcycles, that would be higher frequency and would be well addressed by the ...

Re: Looking for noise suppression

Are the IGUs the same overall thickness. The low frequency drone of the traffic usually takes a bit of extra airspace to help with.

Can they flip that IGU and put the laminated glass light on the outside facing lite?

Where is the home? Those two won't usually be on the top 5 recommendations list for most of the pros that deal in vinyl.

Saw that recent movie (Knives Out - Good movie FYI), and he looks great. Does not look like Miami Vice was 30+ years ago.

Just curious, does the guy building the log cabin have the last name Crockett ?
I think the original information and post might be a "crock", but I am not sure about the builder.

Re: Log home replacement windows

Answers: 1. Sizes are dictated by the openings and removal application. Typical rule of thumb is for a 1/4" cutback on the height and width of the window size for shimming and plumbing. 2. Yes, with the appropriate considerations. Log homes have specific rules with regards to how and where you can e...

Re: Alside Proline 2200 vs Sunrise Essentials

The Vanguard quote sounds about normal and the Essentials sounds low. Same contractor?

If you have every handled or unloaded an Essentials off of a truck vs. a Vanguard, you will feel $200 per unit difference.

Re: Alside Proline 2200 vs Sunrise Essentials

What he said.

Seriously though...if you look at the Essentials next to a Vanguard, you won't understand how both windows are made by the same company and how they could put their name on an Essentials when they produce something like the Vanguard. They are WORLDS apart.

Re: Alside Proline 2200 vs Sunrise Essentials

Even in the cases of short term usage projections, I find that folks are both happier and get a better ROI on their window selection if they go with a good mid-range product vs. an entry level. By all accounts, both products in question would fit the "entry range" descriptor and in this case, occupy...
