Re: Replacement cost

The paint will bump it 25-30% in many cases. Just ask and see what it's worth to you.

Re: Replacement cost

Tough to say across different areas, install types, and material specifications. That said...the days of old are gone. Be sure to send your government a thank you letter. A black window, especially with a non-wood out removal, will easily push solidly into the 4 digit territory. Summary...your numbe...

Don't have any personal experience with any installs. Best to check references.

Re: Need recommendations for trustworthy, highly qualified installers in Boston

Why did the Okna dealer refuse to price triple for the front and double for the back? Did you explain to him that they are in different elevations (i.e. North, South, East, West) of the home?

I will see who I can track down for you.

Who was the Okna company?

Not familiar with the middle brand, but the book ends are regarded as good, solid performers.

Re: Okna New Construction - bottom center bowed?

Yeah. Mostly not necessary if you aren't planning on water getting into the RO. Certainly not needed for the window to drain properly.

While high on pragmatism, makes setting, shimming, and creating a properly supported substructure for the window much harder and mostly unnecessary.

Re: Okna New Construction - bottom center bowed?

Correct. Sill noising is not pertinent to the operation of the window as indicated here.

Re: Okna New Construction - bottom center bowed?

Can be "normal". We see in it in the sill nosing as that is the thinnest part of the window. Most times you can massage it down with some force and many times they will "lay down" with a few temperature cycles in the summer.

Re: Replacing large PW but leaving attached double hung

If you cap the remaining double hungs, you should be able to mitigate the visual offset. Are the windows to be left in place equip with Low-e?

Re: Question on bow windows pricing in NJ

Massive window. Between the installation and unit frame and install...it's not that out of whack.

Handling those monsters is a PITA and requires some definitive logistics.

Re: Window Recommendations in the Deep South?

+1 to HomeSealed comment.

Definitely the front runner product and generally speaking, a good commentary on a company when they use a good window as well.

Re: Window Recommendations in the Deep South?

Can you re-post the information without the garden window if they line item'ed it? The reality is that they are super expensive and that will drive price, by a good bit.

Re: Okna DH800 install question

That's nice that they are going to help out with the extra steps. Like I mentioned above, the install that was executed is considered an AAMA acceptable application. If they are are pulling siding and installing new J-channel, if they wanted to fabricate a type of "nailing flange" made out...
