Re: Is this a red flag?

I think there are some mixed terms here. 8-10K for 17 full frame removals and replacements can't be done in today's materials costs.

Re: Is this a red flag?

I am still trying to take your money.... :D :D Answer to your question in order. Is a full tear out that much more expensive by comparison...can be. Depending on trim, it can get up there. There is definitely more labor and consumables and time in that binary comparison between a pocket and insert j...

Re: Insulating Inside (Okna windows)

This is the one that we use.

Good feedback and as long as you don't pull the foam off, lasts a long time.

Re: L brackets on Okna new construction

They are bracing the mull between the windows. If it interferes with the siding, you can remove them but be sure to have a drip cap over that window as water can leak between the mull. All the windows should have Z-bar/drip cap flashing regardless.

Re: Okna, provia, pella

Have a conversation with the guy that you are worried about. I'd also see what the 3.5 was about vs. 4 or 5 stars. Here's what I can tell you...if the window is hung correctly...you should never have an issue with the window. Will a seal maybe fail or something break...sure. But all stuff that is se...

Re: New Simonton window build quality question

I’m going to take it back. I just wanted to see if I was blowing it out of proportion. I agree. After Covid things went to crap. Maybe it’s a newer generation of workers but nobody takes pride in workmanship anymore. People just want to collect a paycheck and that’s it. Well...we killed the work et...

Re: New Simonton window build quality question

Might as well send that back. Looks like the dry glazing tape was haphazardly applied here. The Post-Covid quality of products has really taken an absolute dump on the consumer. We see it across the board. Hope folks realize this when the company owners on here talk about why we generally recommend ...

Agree with HomeSealed.

While that one window from your local company has mass distribution...it's really that that good a window. Numbers on it are sub par and while they make a good door...the window is questionable at best and QA/QC has been really hit or miss.

Can be closed with coil or you could get a bit of the Cobra Vent Ridge vent and fold it over to stuff in there once the birds are gone.

What's the issue with can spray foam for windows? Just curious. +1.

Edit necessitates that I reply with a "+1" to HomeSealed amended commentary on product selections as well as company sustainability.

Re: Narrow down brands

Of that list, Soft-Lite makes the best product in vinyl. Your cousin's point is accurate, with caveats. Plenty of companies have been acquired by larger companies and still had their warranties invalidated because the acquiring company purchased the assets and none of the liabilities. So...to that e...

Generally speaking, as referenced by randy....tall fences make for good neighbors analogy for using friends. That said...sounds like he is a company owner vs. just a guy. If he is buying AMI stuff, ask him if he can get the MI (Sunrise) window in this case. Might be a better product option and would...

The horror stories seem to be real. Having been tracking this stuff for years....can't say that I have heard of a "good" install for the Big Box guys. Do they exist...sure. Are folks talking about them, no. To you point about quotes...not a great line up there. Have you looked for what mos...
