No. The last window I had with HM was the Q2. As bad as that window was in almost every aspect, the HM held up remarkably well.anthony wrote:Buddy.
do you still carry a HM line?
What the the typical cost difference?
How do you insure that is is fabricated correctly with acceptable seal failure and warranty?

Re: Help Replacement windows Cleveland stanek
I sold HM for many years. I have not had one seal failure. I love the technology, it not only insulates very well, it deadens sound better than low e windows. It's only downside is cost. IMO it's ever bit as good as any low e glass out there.

I'll echo Dave's sentiments also. Softlite is a good manufacturer also, but the window you're comparing it to is an older design. Plygem is a good company with an average window

I would put Slocum windows in the mid range of quality. Also their manufacturing plant is a bit antiquated.

Of the three, I would say the Simonton. Keep in mind, Installation is an extremely important ingredient here. A poor installation of a good window can render the best of windows ineffective.

See my response on the sister board. http://www.replacement-windows.com/windowbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4863 In Westchester You can use a mixture of triple and double if you like, but a top quality double pane will do just fine and save you some money. Like it has been said though, a window under $...

I'll agree with pretty much all the advice you've gotten here so far. Less than $400 is a red flag IMO. Contact masterext if you can. He'll steer you in the right direction.

Re: Trying to figure out general price to expect
Im in the same boat, looking for pricing for window replacement, and so far i've had about 6 or 7 different companies in my home selling there product. The ones with the highest quote came in at about 10,000 for 9 replacement windows, he's the one that needed 2hrs off my day and my wife needed to b...

Re: Trying to figure out general price to expect
Having sold and installed both, I'd agree that the Okna is better, although either are better than the Vytex. I'd even venture to say that you will not find a better vinyl window than the Okna offering, as it at the top with the best offerings from Sunrise and Softlite. On Gorell, they were indeed ...

Re: slocomb windows
Slocum windows less about performance and engineering, and more about sales and gimmicks. They don't make a bad window, but it's nothing special either. The windjammer is a very old design from the window man days (1980'S).

Re: Looking for suggestions - Long Island, NY
Power W&S has an "ok" window, but nothing special. I would definitely keep looking, especially @ 875 per window  . OTOH $279 installed for any window is a red flag IMO. Look for Gorell, Himark/okna, Softlite, Simonton and Sunrise. Once you've found these top brands it's time to ...

Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
Your old windows probably had a built in flange and did not need to be caulked to the J channel. The new inserts do not have that and need to be sealed to the J channel. I would just add that it really depends on the exact circumstances... In fact I have seen far too many replacements installed whe...

Re: Okna 5500 DX Quote
I believe the 800 has a magnetic weather seal and slightly better air infiltration numbers than the 500. It's a little nicer looking with lift handles rather than a lift rail. Otherwise they're pretty close.
Nothing wrong with the Gorell 5300 either.

Re: Energy Efficient vinyl windows in Oklahoma heat
"Ranking" a window for any area is subjective, but of the manufacturers you listed Simonton is the most respected. I would look for a glass package with a hi shgc, to help block radiant heat.

Re: Need Help In Ohio - Freezing Cold Rehau Windows
Tilt and turn windows are tricky to install. The must be perfectly square and level. If they're not they can leak a little air at the base.
