Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors

I have an AW 400 AP in my house, it is air tight.
Lots of people have trouble with MPL.

Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors

A sliding glass door is easier to install than a french door.
A french door AP/PA has to be in a single plane, not as big an issue with sliders.

Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors

I think with a little maitance both have similar functional life spans.

I would not call a correctly designed and prefinished ThermaTru door a butget door.
We are doing a split finish TT craftsman smooth fiberglass( why can't HMI make that), full view decorative side lights
Clad frame ~ $6 K.

Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors

Most Therma Tru fabricators offer prefinish both in stain and paint. I do think that getting the slabs at minimum prefinished is best as the are dried and do not stick to the weatherstripping. But if someone has the talent and wants a lower cost by doing the finishing themselves, that is fine. I jus...

Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors

I am still not a fan of entry doors for hinged french doors, particularly if they are AP( double active). With out multi point locks the don't do well. If you want the lowest cost and are not afraid of painting it yourself then you can do Therma Tru with multi point lock. You have to figure out what...

Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors

For double active French hinged I like AW 400 series for the quality, AI, warranty and price point. It is a wood door on the inside, it can come prepainted white. If you move up to the A series you can get it prestained.

Re: Side tilt latch replacement

Not sure if that shark fin/thumb part of the tilt latch is broken off or just popped out.
Yes it will replace like the DH videos you have watched. Stick a properly sized flat tip screw driver in the hole slide the latch up and pull in towards you.

Re: Help installing new OKNA windows.

Yes you want the jamb jack o make contact with the stud or frame or wall . It is designed to keep the vertical legs of the replacement window frame not bowed out or in, consistent reveal between the vertical of the sash and the vertical of the frame.

Re: structural support for picture window.

I agree with the 1/4 1/2 1/4
There is a small amount of difference with a factory mull.

Re: structural support for picture window.

Okna may not want to ship it mulled because of the length.
It may be better to order the units separate and put a 2x4 or 6 vertical mull in.

Re: Majestic vs Okna 600

WE tried the Majestic for a couple of jobs last year.
My very fussy lead mechanic absolutely prefers the Okna.
I will leave it at that as I do not want to upset anyone nor burn bridges.

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (What to do?)

There are installs where we dry fit the unit into the hole, push it out 1/4", put a needle tip on the foam gun spray perimeter, then push window back.

Re: Fortis of Potomac?

Either would work well.
If it was for my house I would choose the Potomac-hp.
