Re: Okna 500 (Instul-Tec) – Confirming my choice

I know this thread is more than a month old, but I've had the Okna 500 DH windows at my home for around 4 years now and they are still performing nicely. Seals are holding up, operates easy, latches are solid, and vinyl frame is holding up solidly. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Seeking Replacement Windows in Madison, WI area

kcascade,

I think Window4U was being a little facetious, pocket sill windows aren't well regarded.

Re: DIY Lessons Learned from installing 26 - Simonton windows

tsanltr: Thanks for the write-up, and the tip on using the cans of foam with a straw is much appreciated. From the write-up, we're looking at your cost of going with a contractor vs installing it yourself, but you said that you had upgraded the glass package, so I'm not able to compare "apples-...

Thanks for the follow-up, Okna triple pane for less money compared to Simonton double pane, gee that's such a difficult decision.

Re: Replacement Window Recommendations

Homesealed: I'm saying that given the prices kurbob46 has posted, kurbob46 is not getting the same value as I or Sweet Lew had gotten and so I'm just trying to understand the differences. I also confirmed with kurbob46 that the Gorell quote uses Intercept spacers. Does Gorell's website show the Supe...

Re: Replacement Window Recommendations

kurbob46: I'm approaching this from a value perspective. I merely have the opinion that given what I'd paid and what others have posted in terms of pricing compared to the pricing you'd posted, it would have placed you, for instance, in the playing field of the Softlite Imperial LS. I don't know you...

Re: Drowning in a sea of casement windows!

SL: I realize the decision has already been made, and a good decision at that, but just for conversation's sake, from your previous post it looked like the Okna was $900 less for triple pane, while the Simonton was double pane, did the Simonton dealer provide a triple pane price? The Okna casement h...

Re: Replacement Window Recommendations

kurbob46: It looks like you're considering both sliders and casements. Sliders have inherently higher air leakage numbers than casements (casements generally have the lowest air leakage numbers), don't suppose you could go with more casements than sliders? Does the Gorell AC Master Glass come with P...

Re: Drowning in a sea of casement windows!

SL: You got a really good deal on that Okna 700 TP, if Dave quoted you that price (can't imagine anyone else), then it's a steal. I couldn't get that price in TP, Dave must really like you. :) If you can work out the installation differences, that would be my vote. I'M DONE!!! Whew...Estimat...

Re: Okna 400 vs 800

I may be stating the obvious, but just remember the preferable method of installation if you're going to do siding and windows is to remove old siding, remove old windows, install new windows with nail fin, and followed by new siding. While you're at it, consider any patio doors. Just passing on les...

Re: Soft-Lite Imperial LS vs Okna 500

I have the Okna 500 window, it's been performing well through the winter. Don't know where you are but if I could have been able to afford triple pane, I would have gone with it just for the higher condensation resistance during the winters. You must know by now that the Superspacer is a good spacer...

Re: Drowning in a sea of casement windows!

SL:

I'm a homeowner putting in my 2 cents worth, I had Dave (Window4U) put in OKNA casement windows for me more than a year ago and they have performed very well, my only regret is that I didn't go with triple pane in the bathroom window.

My local ABC Supply Co would sell Simonton windows to the homeowner, don't know about your local ABC Supply house, but you could give it a try.

Re: Okna 500 Series Insul-Tec Replacement Windows

I had the Okna double hung and some 3-lite casements installed about 10 months ago. Double-hungs are solid, operates well, sliding screen feature is great. Very reasonable price that you've been quoted. Only regret is I didn't get the triple-pane, couldn't quite swing that in the budget.
