Re: Patio door and basement windows questions

"4) Any chance of more articles and/or videos showing and comparing products? I find it's not always easy looking at small pics on the web to see things like detail of the product, operation, and size of the sashes and such." If only we had the time. theWindowNerd I hear you about finding...

Re: Patio door and basement windows questions

I wanted to take a few minutes to offer some thoughts and say I appreciate that there are forums for windows and doors where professionals and consumers can gather. Not all of us live in areas with a lot of window installer choices much less showrooms where we can compared products so a forum like t...

Re: Patio door and basement windows questions

Spoke to the window installer today, decided to go with the Polaris Ultraweld Patio Door, 3 UW awning style windows for the finished part of the basement, and one slider window for the garage.

Thanks to everyone for their help and comments.

Re: Patio door and basement windows questions

Thanks for the reply, for the patio door I am going with the ultraweld. As for the basement/garage windows I have read good things about thermaweld plus and Kennignston and figure since they are less used/needed I'd like to see if I could save a bit of cash and still get decent performance. Still cu...

Patio door and basement windows questions

Hello to everyone. I’m looking to replace my patio door (finally) and also decided to get quotes for replacing (3) windows in my finished basement and one in the garage. The installer has good reviews and pricing appears good he usually deals in Polaris and Kennisgnton. The current windows are 45+ y...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

Any general contractor that would be around $300-$400 on a patio slider install won't be very happy at the end of the day when he loses his pants on that pricing. Disposal of the old door, repairing the rotted sill/threshold, pan flashing it, new trim, mods to the flooring, addition of trim boards,...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

Latest update - Seaway - I have not contacted them yet because around here they want to do the whole sales pitch and I'm not sure I want to sit through that just for measurements and pricing. Polaris Ultraweld - Called local company that sells/installs and received the following quotes - standard du...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

Sunrise make a nice door. To only save $300 and not go with sunrise just doesnt make any economic sense to me, especially over the course of only 5 years. I'm just a homeowner so I am going to ask between the Polaris Ultraweld, Sunrise and Simonton what makes the Sunrise stand out (especially compa...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

In that comparison, I prefer the Sunrise door over the Provia slider. Not sure if you mean Polaris instead of Provia but I updated my original message to clear up confusion and give a better comparison. The price for the Polaris unit with full installation was at least 300 cheaper than just buying ...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

Latest update: Spoke to a window person who sells/installs Polaris ultraweld, he confirmed my current door/opening is a bit larger than the standard size. Said he can do standard or custom and gave me some prices for both. Called OKNA directly after not hearing back to email inquiry, nearest delaer/...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

Any one of the quality doors mentioned above is going to be a decent bit more expensive. That said, it is going to be significantly better. All I can say about most of the big box store doors is that they are throw aways. We tear them out and replace them all the time. Makes sense just wanted to se...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

Thanks for the responses. How much more expensive are the doors you are recommending than say the run of the mill sllider sold at the big box stores? The reason I ask is we aren't looking to break the bank on the door/install and according to one contractor our current door is not a standard size. I...

Re: Help finding a Sliding Patio Door replacement

I did some internet checking and can't find an Okna or Soft Lite dealer/installer in the area (northwest PA) but did find some Sunrise dealers. Any idea how the following all compare: PlyGem, Viwinco, Sunrise, Seaway and should I avoid any of those brands? Another installer i found installs these br...

Thank you, looking at the nfrc site they all seem comparable for air filtration so what makes the seaway a better product?

Also are there any other products I should consider?
