The Barcelona comes in both impact level D and impact level C. Level D is what you want, not C.

Re: Surface 2 vs Surface 3
Hi Kennedy, Polaris's illustration wasn't very clear, probably adding to any confusion. Glass in windows is labeled from outside in. In a dual pane window the outer glass lite that you can touch, the part exposed to the air, is surface 1 and the opposite side of the same sheet of glass as surface 1 ...

Re: Surface 2 vs Surface 3
Placing a LowE coating on surface 2 lowers solar heat gain through the window while placing the coating on surface 3 results in an increase in solar heat gain. Window U value performance doesn't change between surface 2 or surface 3 coating application. Single silver layer coatings are designed for ...

Re: Super spacer low e glass
Woot...Woot on new developments :D :D    There are a lot of new developments on the horizon. I am going to predict that the next few years may change our thinking about glass and window options. There are some really cool ideas and I think that some of those are going to be part of t...

Re: Super spacer low e glass
+1 Oberon. Didn't mean to slight the XLEdge with that non-metallic disclaimer. I would put anything that Cardinal does right along side with any other premium glass manufacturer. Not a slight when it's true, the non-metal spacers are warmer than metal at the edge and that does translate into less c...

Re: Super spacer low e glass
Tom, All LowE coatings improve the overall U value of windows. There are different types of LowE coatings depending on whether you want high solar gain or low solar gain. Most window manufacturers tend to consider U value performance as a lot more important than solar heat gain so that they will pic...

Re: window replacement in winter?
Makes perfect sense.
I try (TRY) to keep it simple.
I have had a few people argue with me over the years, but most people pick right up on the dew analogy. Once you explain it in those terms you can see the light bulb in their head come on.

Re: Heat Tolerance of Vinyl Windows
The glass will be fine as long as the heat applied to the windows is consistent. IGU seals depend on the spacer and sealants used. Some of the non-metallic spacers tend to be heat sensitive, but 140°F should be low enough (for the short duration) that they should be okay. I wouldn't want to hold 140...

How often do people argue with you when you tell them that exterior condensation this time of year means that their windows are performing normally?

Re: window replacement in winter?
We don't get to 14 degrees here so that would be problematic for the installers purely from the standpoint of just moving around.  It isn't so bad when the sun is out and no wind , but when it gets below zero then it's starting to get cold, sun or no sun! It occurs to me that thi...

Re: Is the infinity a "thinner window??
To answer your specific question, there certainly can be variations in the width of spacers used in dual pane windows. As a general rule wider is not necessarily better because a wider airspace between lites will result in an increase in convection currents in the airspace that will lower the insula...
