Re: vinyl windows in the Texas heat
personally, i wouldnt worry about the heat effecting your windows. be they vinyl or fiberglass. i'd be more concerned with the glass type you would be choosing.

Re: Standard window gap allowed for window size
ive been with the same window company for the last 17 years. we've always used the 1/4 inch difference method. frame measures 1/4 inch less than the rough opening, on all sides. in my opinion, 1/8 inch doesnt allow for much manuvering or very tight applications.

air infiltraion is a big downside on the excalibur/alside units. the sash meets are poorly designed in my opinion. i know, i build 'em!

Re: Wrong Grids Installed
as far as holding back the entire amount, i would say, it depends on how many of the 13 units showed up with the wrong grid. and i agree that new sash's are probably what the installer is thinking. 30 seconds each, and you're done.

Re: Post inspection checklist
ive seen windows installed inside out before! good point! also, check to see that all locks engage their keepers smoothly. sometimes the keepers will need adjusting. if the lock does not line up with the keeper correctly, then you may result to forcing the lock to fully engage. this will tweak the s...

Re: Glass loss on Pocket vs. full frame install...
i would imagin the glass loss would be minimal, going from wood frames to vinyl. you might even gain a few inches. in my experience, old wood main frames are rather bulky. new vinyl frames, in comarison are a little smaller. #2. if you were to go with a full frame replacement. you would gain a signi...

Re: constant force vs block and tackle
block and tackle is a lot quieter. constant force balances tend to be noisy as the coils are stretched and retracted on the rollers that are inside their keepers.
