The way to seal it depends on how you frame it . If it’s the same width as the existing you could just shorten the frame , raise the sill and put it in as insert.
If you are changing the RO you will need to tie into the existing weather barrier and new drip cap.

I think an insert can be done here. Unfortunately it appears you may have to demonstrate if it can be done, or not.

Re: Non-Removable Jamb Liner
If that is a wood clad vinyl window you might need to get creative and maybe cut out the track extrusions to create your pocket. If that is not possible I’d Lear towards a full frame replacement. In the end you are limited to what contractors are willing to do unless you take it on yourself.

Re: Non-Removable Jamb Liner
They are probably just Pressed into a kerf.
You will probably damage them and may not want to remove them. You could remove the casing and the filler piece to get behind it , but I don’t see the point in doing so until the windows are replaced.

Not sure the same but they will come out something like this. There is no need to remove them to measure the windows, I’d be Leary if a window contractor couldn’t figure it out.

Re: Whole house replacement
I think technically speaking there would be no “stuctural” rating to be found on a Silver rated window since they do not test for that, since it is one of the primary differences. Therefore I thinking they are feeding you a bit of BS.Interesting that they do list structural ratings with out being Go...

Re: Which windows should I install, replacement or new construction windows?
If the siding is not being replaced and the wood frames are idea for inserts I’d probably go that route. A finned window is used in new construction and old construction . To use it in old construction the exterior trim needs to be removed and if the siding butts up to the window frame ( no exterior...

Finned windows is typically the way to go when the siding is being replaced.

Indeed I am, I am well aware of your past comments on the Pro-Via and I Usually find your post the most most interesting. I’m more interested in why you would put the Pro-Via over the Fortis in a landslide or at all.

I don’t have any experience installing any of those but the feedback on the Fortis is very good. Never seen anyone claim the Pro-Via over the Fortis by a landslide or at all.

Re: Okna Window Questions
I’d ask if they could offer the trim in primer or better yet prefinished . I personally hate leaving things for the home owner to finish and believe in a true turn key experience.

Re: Softlite Imperial Elite vs Joyce Heritage
Saying it performs like a window. With 0.05 air infiltration is a new one, Since I feel that it would be impossible to tell the difference I would have went with 0.01. Good luck with your purchase, make sure to follow up when it’s done.

Re: Softlite Imperial Elite vs Joyce Heritage
They do take an interesting approach since they are both a manufacture and and an installation company and they along with Soft-Lite sell to Zen. I’ve never seen so little information out there before about a window company. Whatever is found mostly good but nothing great. I don’t think I’d give any...
