Re: Fixing lock in Sunrise Patio Door
Sunrise/MI attaches the multipoint strike hook metal piece with short phillips #2 bugle heads to the strike leg extrusion from the factory and expects their certified installers to replace a few of them with longer 3" like screws after the strike reveal margins are correct. Your margins don't a...

Re: Stressing over windows in southern Minnesota
I had a Marvin brochure on my desk that I just picked up from my local supply house and didn't check the date of the brochure. It's a 2020 brochure lol as the staff didn't update their stashes of brochures. Looks like black is available. One thing that I will add to that series by Marvin is that one...

Re: Stressing over windows in southern Minnesota
Soft-Lite can do an all black window. One of the better vinyl manufacturers out there. I prefer a Marvin Elevate to Andersen 400's and Pella Impervia. I don't think that one can get the Elevate with their fiberglass exterior in black though. Sunrise can do a black laminate interior and black painted...

Re: Okna 800 question
Yes, but their business model may have a smaller emphasis on the labor aspect cost of their final pricing verses resale of the product than that of my business.

Re: Okna 800 question
I'd check back with that dealer regarding the triple upcharge of $200 per window. Something doesn't sit well with me with that. I don't do that many windows with triple up here in NJ/DE, but I like it. Well, all except for lifting the windows at my age.

Re: Pella 250 vs Okna 800
1987 Yugo verses a new Corvette Z06. OKNA by the biggest margin ever.

Re: Gentek SE vs Slocomb IS500
The fit and finish on the lower to mid grade Slocumb products can be very rough. Mainly the welds. Most vinyl window manufacturers utilze about the same process to shave off the overspill welds fromt the face of the welds. Slocomb must have a drunk lumberjack swinging a chainsaw to perform this task...

Re: Need advice for Wood Laminate Replacements
That Vytex series is very nice. The Alside unit is very bulky. OKNA 600 or 800 should be in the mix.

Re: Himark 1000 vs 800dx differences?
I'm sorry this outfit delivered subpar workmanship. There are a too many speed oriented alleged mechanics out there . Many times, janky capping, sloppy caulking, and other hack moves are considered "industry norms." Unfortunately, manufacturers don't really have a way to police what a part...

Re: Comparing Windows in Iowa
The Sunrise is a very good window, especially compared to that other barely mid-level vinyl stuff. The Relibuilt is private label from Atrium for Lowes.

Re: ATLANTA WINDOW REPLACEMENT- Okna vs. Restorations
The welding process on either window is top notch so no worries there. I prefer a little more frame profile myself to ensure that the vinyl has enough frame strength to not require more fasteners and shimming to ensure that no bows or frowns have to be taken out by good installers. All three series ...

Re: Vinyl window welds
Those are pretty bad and super dirty. You can take a sharpened 1/2" chisel and care fully clean the weld flash out and that will help quite a bit along with cleaning with something like Spray Nine.

Re: Vinyl Hopper Replacement
I missed the part in which it wasn't being installed into a typical basement foundation setting. As WOW mentioned, whatever framing it's being installed into would need the bottom pitched not to hold water on the sill. In my experience, Silverline (American Craftsman) has super loose tolerances in t...

It does not need to be sloped. That's not a very good window either by the way.

Re: Non-Removable Jamb Liner
If I were not sure that the jambs were completely vinyl and part of a full vinyl frame and not sort of stubborn removeable jamb liners, I'd remove a casing leg carefully and take a look at the side jamb frame entirely to see if it's wood or completely vinyl. I've never come across your window before.
