Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
will do....It sounds like it is coming through....will check closer to confirm. I'm not sure if it matters, but the caulking on the outside looks OK except across the window bottom to J-channel (vinyl siding). I can see several large gaps/voids across the bottom section of the new insert to the orgi...

Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
Thanks Ecostar.
Yeah, as I am sitting hear a gentle wind just blew and the window made the same noise. I'll ask them to look at it.
Does this sound like a good approach:
1st try re-caulking all outside window joints and capping.
If noise persists, then remove capping and inspect further.
Thanks,

Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
Got it...Thanks. I wasn't looking to use this info to make any changes to the windows that are already installed (unless there are gross discrepencies which does not sound like the case here)....just want to know going forward, as I have plenty more windows to replace. What got me thinking about it,...

Re: Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
Hi Ranger, Thanks for the quick reply....appreciate it. I think you are referring to general caulk guidelines, unless I misunderstand (which is quite possible). My question referred to the foam insulation already installed on the window frame from the factory. Is it enough to rely on that to seal th...

Starmark Window/Insert Installation Question
Hi Folks, I just had a few Starmark window inserts installed and have a question about proper installation. The Starmark window inserts have a foam gasket around the outside of the frame perimeter. When these get installed is it enough to rely on the gasket to seal the void between the original wind...

Okna Starmark improvements
Has anyone else heard that Okna is upgrading their Starmark window line at the end of this year?? I just spoke with an installer in my area; where they mentioned that Okna is making some changes to the window. They are going to enhance the exterior to have the same or simliar outside stepped bezel o...

Re: Window Install Recommendations
Hi Eco Star, I want to stay with the Starmark windows. They gave me a quote for the Starmarks, matching my original price, which is a good price. I did a little more research on them (Angies List & Yahoo Reviews) along with thinking about my brief meeting with their project manager, and phone ca...

Re: Window Install Recommendations
Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply. There were a few things that weren't right. The installer showed up with no wood or lumber to fill the gap after the new window inserts were installed (to support the new capping). I ended up supplying the wood for him. Also, a couple of windows had rotted wood that n...

Window Install Recommendations
Hi Folks, Has anyone used Windows Plus based out of Media, PA? Can you tell me if you have/had a good experience with them? I finally had the first few windows (Okna Starmark) installed in my home this past week and the installer did not do well. I am now seeking to find a company who will do a good...

Re: Dual or triple pane glass
Guys, Couple more questions from a newbie here. What do you mean by doing air sealing first? What is air sealing? Do you, window professionals, do attic insulation too or is that a construction company kind of work? I could use your help in getting the right type of professional to look at my situat...

Re: Dual or triple pane glass
Ecostar...I agree with you about the roof. Depending on the cost, it may not be worth it, specially at 2x. I sure will look at my attic insulation...Thanks for your info & advice. WoW, TP argon is $100 and TP Krypton is $127. I removed the costs from my previous post because I thought that was a...

Re: Dual or triple pane glass
Thanks Ecostar. Yeah, it's definitely more money. For my project it adds $3000. I figure, I'm already there why not go all in and hopefully not re-visit it for a long long time. My house is 2500 sq ft with a total of 28 windows and 3 doors. The kitchen door is already replaced and will probably do t...

Re: Okna 800DX VS Starmark
OK...my wife and I decided. We're going with the Starmarks. And if you saw my other thread, Triple Pane, Krypton, (2) low-e, and foam filled. Might as well, make it Cadillac. We're going to split the project and do half now and half in the spring to spread the costs. This way, we end up with better ...

Re: Dual or triple pane glass
Thanks. I agree WoW. Based on my quotes going to triple pane is the biggest cost to upgrade. Adding Krypton is a not a big deal (based on my quotes). In my home, most windows face south and west. In the summertime, my AC has a hard time keeping the house cool. We have very little trees and the sun b...
