Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Update# 4: Based on the advise given here and my reading much, much info about the Gordell 5300, the Sunrise Verde, and the Sunrise Vanguard, I decided that the Vanguard was the window that best fit my needs. Except for the little matter of a 10% up-charge. But happily, after a heart to heart discus...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

After reading the material again, I did misunderstand the info presented in the window brochure. It's not the Verde window that the R-factor is referring to, but the material used in the in their frames. Take that as a lesson learned when reading all the technical "horn-tooting' by any and all ...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

The R-factor is from the manufacturer's sales brochure, not from the sales guy. It's also on the web site: http://verdewindowsanddoors.com/green_features.html . All of the ratings that I posted are from the same sources. I may be misunderstanding what I read and will let you verify. Again, the sales...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Update #3 on window selection: Finally got an estimate from the Sunrise installer. He had a bad case of the Flu, and I was away for a few days. 44 total windows: 29 DH's: 15 - 72x31, 12 - 60x31, 2 - 35x23 13 pic: 1 - 70x35, 5 - 60x31, 2 - 48x31 5 - 2x1(tansom) 2 half rounds: 1 - 72W x 36H at ctr poi...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

I noticed that the Verde doesn't have an interlock between the upper and lower sash when closed, although it did seem to have a full width/thicker pile. Is the interlock something that makes a window "better". The Gorell and Vista had this feature.

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Thanks for the reply's. I don't think reinforcement is an option at this time since I questioned the absence and the seller didn't offer an upgrade. He did say that he could get the Vanguard but at a 10-15% premium. Won't know about that until I get his est. for the Verde.

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Update #2 on window selection: Meet today with the authorized and only Sunrise dealer in middle Tennessee. (Estimate to follow later) The window he sell's in the Verde (verdewindowsanddoors.com). The Sunrise web site doesn't mention this window and the brochure he left doesn't have Sunrise mentioned...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Thanks for the reply's. The 5300 is a lot more bulky than my old aluminum's and the 5100 is more like the aluminum, but looks like a storm window to me. I'll get use to the 5300 over time.

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Update on window selection: Met with the Gorell sales person and picked the 5305 with Eco Master glass pack (UF:29, SHGC:20) as my best option. Discussed Soft-lite but it would be 12% more and I don't want that. He and I decided that triple pane was probably a little over kill for my location. Still...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

Thanks for the reply. I'll be getting more info on the suggested windows in the near future and posting updates as I learn more about each window from the local dealers. As info about my replacement project: I have a total 42 windows to replace, configured in various 3 sets, 2 sets with transoms , h...

Re: Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

I was hoping that the Pro guys like you would recommend someone who does great installation. My neighbors have used companies that members like you (and myself) have already dismissed (Blue & Orange big box retailers and the national TV home improvement guys). I have talked with a local company ...

Need help replacing my windows in Tennesee

I'm ready to replace my 20yr old aluminum double pane windows this spring/summer and need suggestions for a company/person to do a quality installation in middle Tennessee.
I plan on using windows that have been recommended as "best quality" by forum members. Thanks.
