Re: Replacements in Philly...help!!

$1300 per window for vinyl windows? That seems like a very high price. You may have a difficult removal/installation situation in your home and/or have some large sizes...but enough to justify $1300 per window? I would cancel that contract instantly. I got a quote from them also and IIRC they were a...

Re: Affinity Windows review

I just wanted to clear up a couple of points that maybe weren't clear. 1) The cheap feeling lock latches I mentioned were on the Advantage window. As I mentioned, I LIKE the dual-function lock/tilt latches. Actually, I like them very much. They were very solid feeling. Possibly, the most solid feeli...

Re: Affinity Windows review

I researched Affinity windows before I purchased the Okna 800DX. There were a few things that bothered me about the Affinity windows.... 1) The standard latches felt VERY cheap. They jiggled around when you touched them. They really felt like a 2 year old could snap them off easily. However, the opt...

Re: To foam or not to foam upon installation

I just had windows installed in my home and this is how I look at this topic... If there is enough room to get the low-expansion foam nozzle in between the window frame and the stud....you use the foam. With careful pressure on the button, he can use enough to bridge the gap but not enough that it c...

Re: Installation question

Yes Anthony, that's what I am going to look for. Basically a piece of V shaped, white coated aluminum with one leg longer than the other. Sort of a J-channel but with the legs spread a bit to make more of a V shape. I'll tuck the longer leg down into the vinyl J-channel they used and then I'll caulk...

Re: Installation question

Thanks for the input. That's what I thought also. As I mentioned, they didn't back-caulk the top J-channel. I would be fine with it if they did. I'm not going feel 100% comfortable until I either add a drip edge/cap to the top or I seal the top piece of J-channel somehow. Hopefully, I can find a ver...

Installation question

Hello Everyone, I am hoping someone can give me some insight on a vinyl window installation question. I have installed or helped with the installation of quite a few windows over the years in friends and relatives homes. We/I always used or made up some sort of drip-edge for the top the window...if ...

Re: Windows with Shutters

Okay...great.

That makes me feel better. I think it would look much better not having the windows (that have the shutters) surrounded by capping.

I'll make sure the company I choose agrees to use that method.

Thank you.

Windows with Shutters

I am hoping someone can give me some insight on the method(s) of installing new vinyl replacement windows where there are fake shutters on the existing windows. I have 9 windows to replace and 6 of them have shutters. I am concerned because most of the companies I have received estimates from say th...
