Re: Which glass package??!!

Thanks Homesealed. I am a little concerned about the VT # being below 0.5. I read somewhere that under 0.5, the windows may start to have an appearance of being tinted, almost like wearing sunglasses. I really want to preserve as much light as possible since I have a lot of trees and shade in my yar...

Which glass package??!!

I am replacing 14 double hung old wood windows, have gotten multiple estimates and decided to go with the Vytex Fortis. The standard R-4 glass package has the following specs: Ufactor: 0.26 SHGC: 0.29 Visible Transmittance: 0.53 For ~$50 more per window, I could upgrade to R-5: Ufactor: 0.22 SHGC: 0...

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

Ok, it sounds like I don't want to go that route then since total glass area is important to me. Thanks very much.

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

Thanks for all the feedback! I heard back from the Vytex Fortis representative and the measurement for the lower sash is 2 7/8 (as I believe someone here helpfully stated), and the upper sash is 3 1/2. Are there any replacement windows with the upper and lower sashes the same width? (I don't know ho...

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

Thanks for all the feedback! I contacted the sales guy and he stated "he will try to get that information" for me. This leaves me feeling a little puzzled! Can't he just measure the demo window he showed me? Or with the Vytex Fortis, maybe the frame and sash size vary during the manufactur...

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

Actually the VT number could be reflective of any number of things from frame size, to grids, to low e spec, etc. The Vytex is not necessarily considered a "slim" unit in my opinion. My experience with the product has left something to be desired. I would not put it in the same category a...

Windows on Washington wrote:If you compare the VT numbers, they are tiny bit lower on the Fortis (0.53 vs. 0.55) so the frame sizes would be very close.
Thank-you!

Thank-you, masterext!

Does anyone happen to know the width of the frame and sash for the Vytex Fortis? I haven't been able to find that information elsewhere. Thanks!

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

The HOA just wants any replacments to match the original as much as possible, and replacement windows are supposed to go through an approval process prior to installation. The originals are wood frame windows with grids.

It is nice to hear about customers who have been very happy with the Okna 500.

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

Thank-you all for the replies.
We live in a SFH that just happens to also have a fairly strict HOA. Do you feel the OKNA 500 would be an appropriate choice for a SFH?
Again, thanks for your time and expertise.

Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

HomeSealed, Thanks for your response. This is very helpful feedback. In all honesty, when I was talking with the window rep who gave me the misleading information, I may have phrased my question in a confusing manner, so maybe he didn't understand what I was asking. Would you consider the Okna 500 t...

Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes

We are in the process of researching replacement windows. 14 double hung with grids (must stay within HOA guidelines). This board has already been very helpful in navigating the process. Couple questions, I have gotten different answers from different window representatives so I need to clarify! 1) ...
