Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

I'm not a fan of MDF either. There's a lumber yard that was suggested to us by the installation crew that seems to have a huge selection of casing, crown and other trim work. Since we'll be painting it we don't need any of the premium wood types, but I'm certain everything they have will be better q...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Installation is finally complete! The new windows look great and we can already feel a difference inside. We're handling the trim ourselves as we wanted something more custom than the standard picture frame. Something similar to this https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/56/d9/70/56d97070d9f07bd...

Any installers in central MO

I'm looking to help a relative in Central MO with locating quality window installers in central Missouri, Jeff City area. I've done plenty of research on manufacturers and installers for my own project in Ohio, so we have a decent starting point on the products to pursue and what to look for. Just c...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Thanks to all of your for the information.

Sounds like we're about 4 weeks out, then we'll have brand new Okna 600s.

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Thanks. It's entirely possible I'm just overly concerned given the visible moisture damage on the old windows.

I can't imagine their service would be so well reviewed if they really were skimping somewhere.

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Signed the contract with Window Universe for the Okna 600 series last week and had the installer out to measure. Was impressed that he popped the trim and several of the questionable windows to get an accurate measurement and put all the trim back up. One thing that leaves me slightly apprehensive (...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Does the 600 have a nailing flange? If not, are there any concerns about how to properly seal the opening? I do plan on going with the 600, but their sales rep wasn't terribly familiar with the full-frame install process. His quick run-down made it sound like they take things back to the rough openi...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

I actually just met with them last night, so no decision has been made yet. I likely will go with the 600 though. It was a nice looking window and the price was right. I had a tough time finding anybody in the Cleveland area that sold Okna, and the 600 was all I found available. The Polaris UltraWel...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Just met with the Okna installer. They'll likely be my final choice. Pricing was a bit less than the UltraWeld and Pella windows. Ratings are better, but close, to the Polaris UW, and substantially better than the Pella. 22 windows, 21 DH, 1 picture. 1 tempered + obscured Full-Frame install Okna 600...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

That $2100/window quote was for a full-frame install. There is 1 window on the upper floor where the bottom plate of the frame has some rot. Poked around with an inspection camera and the rest of the structure is just fine. We are opting for full tear-out because a few of the windows are rather tall...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Thanks. Just out of curiosity, what would you consider the range of reasonable cost for an Elements triple pane? I realize there's a lot of contributing factors, but as far as I'm aware nothing about my setup is all that extraordinary. 2-story colonial, 22 windows, 11 up and 11 on main floor. There'...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Their claim was that it's a "closed end bid" which means if they find moisture damage to the rough openings they'd fix that "at no cost" as well. Sure sounds to me like they're building every possible "what if" into the price though. And I confirmed they won't reduce th...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Looks like Soft-Lite is out unless I can find another dealer in the area. The Timeless is a rebranded Elements, but only available in triple-pane. I understand there's some cost difference between double and triple pane, but they came in at $2100 per window for full tear-out. That seemed quite steep...

Re: Feedback on NE Ohio quote

Thanks for the info on the Okna 600 series. I just received a call from one of the original companies I got a quote from. They "discovered a rebate" that could save me even more. When I mentioned I had been shopping around, they insisted they could send a "manager" out tonight fo...
