Re: Majestic vs Okna 600

Manufacturers typically don’t promote glass packages. From my experience they offer a standard default package . It is up to the dealer in my experience to convey what their knowledge to the homeowners and discuss the available options. My experience has been different Todd, although perhaps it is ...

Re: Majestic vs Okna 600

Otto, I'd have to agree with the above comments. If Mike serves your area, the best advice that any of us can give would be to meet with him. A true craftsman and good dude. I'll also mention, only since it wasn't addressed yet, that the lower SHGC number is generally not a good thing in a climate l...

Re: Majestic vs Okna 600

Is the real question “ Is the Okna 600 worth $256 dollars more per window?”? Is the real question "is the package of the Okna 600, the installation type and quality, the product options, the trustworthiness and reputation of the dealer, the installation warranty, the customer service, and everythin...

Re: Help with Window Replacement- NE Ohio

I mostly agree with the other pros. The only thing I'd differ on a little bit is the Sunrise double hung. They make an excellent casement and sliding door, but the double hung is not super stout, although it does look nice. The Polaris UW is the opposite where its looks are very utilitarian and some...

Re: Need a good reliable evaluation of my windows

If you were having the issues in the colder months, I'd say that some sort of condensation related cause is likely. Given that it happens in warmer weather and during/after rain, its probably safe to eliminate that cause, or at least as the primary issue. Given that, all of the details about insulat...

Re: Patio Door

I don't think that you will go wrong with any of those 3. I'm going to be a homer and say that the Okna would be my choice for two reasons: 1) Consistency of brand with your windows. Probably not a big deal, but it can make things more streamlined with warranty, etc. Also has the non-metallic spacer...

Re: Opinions on Atrium 8700 windows.

I believe that is the "higher end" model from that manufacturer, however generally speaking they are not held in the same esteem as the top vinyl window choices. Per your other thread it sounds like you are considering Okna as well, that's a pretty easy choice in this comparison IMO.

Re: structural support for picture window.

The 500 vs 700 thing may just be a misinformed sales guy.

On the mulls, you could pry off one of the mull caps to verify that there is no stud in there, but again, it doesn't look like it. Typically the mull would be a bit wider if that were the case.

Re: structural support for picture window.

A couple of confusing things here: 1) If your flanking units are Okna 700 casements, the center PW should be in the 700 frame as well. No reason to use a 500 frame, it would look weird with the different exterior profile. 2) Without seeing this from the interior, it doesn't look as though there woul...

Re: Soft-Lite double-hung equivalent to Okna 800

In my opinion the spread in the product quality and ratings is not quite linear in this case, but again, the pro isnt terrible, just a step down from the others. The pricing gives additional cause for concern though. At a little over $500 per window installed, even a company like Zen, which could be...

Re: Soft-Lite double-hung equivalent to Okna 800

As explained above, the Elements and 800 are the flagships of those respective manufacturers for most purposes. The Ls is a small step down in SL, and the 600/500 is a small step down in Okna. Those windows are closely related in may ways. They lose some bells and whistles and a little bit of perfor...

Re: Which is better? Polaris Platinum or Okna ?

Good advice above, you won't go wrong with the Polaris or Okna option provided that you get a good install. The mezzo is a significant step down. I'd give an edge to the Okna model on product alone, nicer looking, more glass area, composite spacer, newer design. This is under the assumption that the...

Re: Okna vs. UniShield Supreme

Cheapest is RARELY the best value. Quality companies make a living replacing products that were installed as the "cheapest" option. As far as the windows, Ricknez's comments are pretty much on point IMO. The Okna is a superior performer and on an elite level in that regard. The Unishield is pretty s...

Re: Window Trim Shrinking?

+1. There will be some movement based on temperature, so those gaps can open and close to some degree, and some more economical windows will have larger tolerances to begin with. That said, as WoW stated, the worst one is definitely cut short and should be addressed.
