Re: ProVia, OKNA, Simonton, or Reliabilt

Don't disagree with any of that Mac. Try for a more realistic Okna price, also look at Softlite Elements and LS. The Provia is very nice too, but that price just seems to good to be true. If its legit, and you don't have to worry about the dealer going out of business since you are installing yourse...

Re: Pella 350 vs Okna 800 (and other questions)

tripledouble, not sure if you will get a response from the OP, but Masterext runs a great company called AGM. Highly recommended if he services your area.

Re: ProVia, OKNA, Simonton, or Reliabilt

The ProVia seems way to low and the Okna seems way high. I get the feeling I am missing something. I completely agree. The Provia price sounds like dealer wholesale cost on the window, whereas the Okna price sounds like a fully installed price. There has to be something getting lost in translation ...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Do the Okna 500 and 600 share the same frame (excluding reinforcements, etc)? Do they basically look the same? They didnt have the Okna 500 with them, only the 600. Also, the quote for the Provia Endure was about the same as the Okna. Looking at specs looked similar. I dont remember the Endure beca...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Because Okna said so. Okna(or insert any manufacturer) doesn't test the windows, an ANSI certified laboratory does. I know that you are aware of that, I'm only clarifying so that the OP and others don't read this and think that performance ratings are only as honest as the manufacturers publishing ...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

IMO, the initial glass that he offered is most appropriate. If you were in the desert or someplace where your furnace rarely ran, that would be different. The standard low e will take a huge bite out of the heat that you feel coming through as well as the UV rays that fade your furniture, flooring, ...

Not sure if you will get a response from the OP, but the Endure is a solid option.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Very similar windows and performance. The difference between the two comes down to option content more than anything IMO. Pick the one that you like better, or if you want to pocket a couple bucks you aren't losing a ton.

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

If you’re budget is that tight I would have no problem with the 5500. Putting it in the category of “some “ builder grade junk is a bit harsh and incorrect IMO. Yes Todd, great point. I made it almost verbatim in my post immediately above your comment: " Let me also reiterate that while I don't lov...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

Hmm thanks for the advice. The main reason I was considering the Simonton is he installed the windows for my neighbor, and my neighbor told me how good of a job he did and recommended me to him. So far none of the "sales" people have been as bad as a used (or even new) car sales person. One came cl...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

1) The Essentials would not be recommended either. The base Sunrise is pretty good, the Provia is pretty good, and the Okna's are excellent. 2) If you are not willing to spend $600 per window, I'd suggest closing the book on this project for now, or again, consider financing. If you are going to be ...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

MNW, have you explored financing options? ... If you aren't interested in that, I'd opt for reducing the project slightly and getting a better window. I'm not suggesting that you need a "Cadillac" , however after 10 years, a good window will still look and operate like new, where something downstrea...

Re: Simonton, Ply Gem or Alside

MNW, there is some major irony here in that you've narrowed your list in reverse based on quality. You threw out all of the good windows and left the bottom feeders. My opinion on the Simonton option is not as favorable as the other guys. Very bulky and dated. Depending where you are located, it doe...

Re: Low-e windows and green hue - help!

+1. Can't say that I've ever had a client upset about the green hue post install or even heard complaints about competitor windows. The only way that you will notice it is if you put a piece of white paper against it, its really not perceptible to the eye under normal circumstances. Most folks aren'...

Re: Spare parts for White Corona 4000 series Schuco windows

I'd keep searching for superior glass. Perhaps the original installer has a new line that he/she can source glass from? I've also special ordered glass from local supplier with Low e, argon, and composite spacer. Even Cardinal glass with a stainless spacer, while a different look, would be a nice op...
