Why change the oil in your car if you know that you are going to trade in soon? Let the next sap worry about the potential engine damage. What I'm getting at is those that take this mental approach are realing not helping the environment when a landfill has 6 yar old vinyl windows being thrown in it...

You stated that you are searching for "mid-grade." Superseal and AC are not mid-grade. I'm not a Simonton guy, but you should be able to find their entry level products for pretty close to the same price as the 9500 series.

Accu-Weld makes their own window. I've think that they may even make their own extrusions. It's been a few years since I was in the plant.

It's all true. Their robotics are state of the art. I've toured the plant and have installated plenty of Imperials. Very clean fit and finished product with performance numbers that lead the industry. The Elements is their flagship model, but the Imperial LS is pretty close for a little less. I do t...

Accu-Weld has been having the same QC problems for years. We had to part ways several years ago do to this very same problem. I had given up on consistant tolerances and the ability to properly place glazing shims/blocks in their sashes correctly. They should take the interlocks completely off of th...

A great installation may not leak air, but it could be subject to some radient heat loss around the window if not properly insulated. I just removed some 9 year old Mastic vinyl windows that had that had more silicone around the frame in the jambs than fiberglass or ether foam wrapping tape. None of...

Looks like I'll be wearing a tool belt until I'm in the grave. That Assistant Manager's job at Walmart might be looking pretty good if other states consider similar laws. None of the window companies in my area have guys on payroll. Why would good installers they want to work for 35K to 40k when the...

Wtih the triple glazing with Sunrise as with most manufacturers, one can usually only have an option for "flat" or standard internal grids, not the nicer sculptured grid. Makes sense if you look at the space available between the lites of glass and look at how thick the the sculptured grid...

I would really try to find something other than the Thermastar products from Lowes. I have a part time crew that makes a ton of money installing with Lowes. The lead installer is a very good carpenter that got fed up with all of the permits involved wtih general contracting. He does kithens and all ...

How about the Capital series? My girlfriend has works for a builder that builds $600k estate homes that will only offer MI Capital single hung windows. Your contractor would be correct in the fact that it would be close the the Pella vinyl products from Lowes. It should be better actually. At first glance the 1650 looks very similar to the Sunrise products. I have the brochure in front of me and Xact offers lifetime glass breakage, constant force b...

Upper-end Gorell windows will operate night and day in difference from the Accu-Weld windows. I've never carried Gorell but have played with them. Tolerences and quality control would be far superior. Accu-Weld can roll 3 or 4 orders off the line with no problems, then BAMMM! Every window on the nex...
