Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?
All I do is when I find out that I didn't get a job, I forward the information to the EPA and they do the rest. I even let the homeowners know what is going on. Most don't care because they aren't effected by any fines. Most just fax me the contract of the job and I forward it to the EPA. When the E...

Re: Milgard vs. Ply-Gem Sliding Door
Amerimax does not give a warranty on glass breakage for their doors. Tempered glass is one of their exclusion. I would also look at Simonton. They make a nice door.

I would have gone Simonton. Lowe366/argon is what most people want in California.

Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?
Anyone else filing complaints with the EPA for companies not following lead practices? They can still be fined or given a citation for not following the lead safe installation practice.

Re: Confused in Southern California
I am looking to replace original casement windows w/ vinyl casements and one 12 foot patio door. I have estimates that range from 7K to 18K. Everyone uses a different brand. I have estimates for Anlin, Milgard, Simonton, Madison, Amsco, and Amerimax. Can you help! Which of these is best? Madison is...

Re: Why you won't get my business . . .
I recently was quoted by a salesman on some windows. To his credit, he did not pull any sleazy stuff. However, he won't be getting my business. Why? 1. Never provided "the numbers" from the Energy Star label. It was not attached to the sample window. He had to really search on the web to ...

Re: Milgard vs. Ply-Gem Sliding Door
Get some prices on replacing the glass if broken on the door. Prices are pretty high in California and you won't get a warranty on the new glass. Sometimes paying more is a better choice.

I have seen a increase in quoted jobs where the customer wants triple pane windows. Haven't had any problems with seal failure.

Re: Is everyone ready for the new lead testing requirements?
Wanted to see how everyone is doing dealing with the new lead requirements. I have found it some of my competitors are lead certified but don't follow the installation steps. Is this happening to others?

Re: Vinyl windows in Colorado
Hello, looking to buy new vinyl windows to replace wood casements. I have gotten estimates from HD (6200 series), an independent contractor recommended Miramax, and another contractor said Amsco. Any advice on these companies? I prefer the casement for maximizing air flow in summer, especially beca...

Re: EPA requirements on window installations???
House and Senate have legislation in the works to delay the EPA Lead Rule for 1 year. Looks like it might happen. EPA seems to be moving on with their enforcement until something actully passes.
EPA just announce opt out will go away after July 6, 2010.

Re: New energy rebate
The rebate/tax credit that is available for 2010 is just an extension of the 2009 program. Everything is exactly the same, and it is cummulative over the 2 years... There is a new program in the works (Homestar) but the legislation has yet to be passed. House passed it yesterday. Once the Senate vo...
