Re: Painting vinyl windows
The lighter shades should hold up better to fading and the paints are very durable.I have not seen any that have been installed only floor samples.Have you priced these out yet?I believe it runs an extra $150 or so per window.

Re: My experience with window shopping so far....
If i pulled this on you I think you would have missed the point that I would not want a bid from you.In all high pressure sales that I know of personnally the home owner has paid a lot more then the "best deal".I have seen to many people get taken advantage of by high pressure sales people...

No one is forcing you to sit through their presentations. You can ask them to leave, tell them you have to leave, tell them to measure from the outside and send you the quote. They only use these tactics because they work and people let them.

Re: Uneasy feeling about recent insall of vinyl slider windows
Did you or they specify tax credit glass in the bid?I would not let them back in to fix anything. All they probally will do is add more caulk, maybe have someone else reset them.Do not pay them a dime more. That install looks like the drunk neighbor came over to help. Are you sure this isn't a prank?

Re: Reliabilt or Lindsey + Replace all sills? in Mo
I would replace sills as needed as long as they can can match the profiles. It should be easy to do.The Reliabilt is a decent midgrade window,I have no experiance withe the Lindsey.

That is not a very good number.I have seen better #'s from low end vinyl windows.

Some companies specify specifically not to use MEF.I would not worry about an 1/8'' gap.

Re: Do you change out all sills or only bad sills?
I rarely replace the full sill on wraps or inserts.I always put the joint well under the insert and always go back till I have solid wood to fasten to.You or the installer should be able to easily spot any rotted wood before the install in most cases. If I miss any I usually replace them for free.Als...

Re: What is the life expectancy of a vinyl window?
I would get some more quotes on some mid grade windows if you plan demolishing it.I would say 25 years is pretty good run for any modern window.

Re: EPA requirements on window installations???
I have talked to the Mn. Dept. of Health, they enforce the rule in MN as well as the District EPA guy out of Chicago. They do not even have all all of the answers yet,and are leaving the enforcement up to individual states.Until there is a rule over ruling the opt out it will remain, they have 60 days...
