Re: New Cons. Window advice

Okna is the best of the options, and closed cell spray foam is superior to fiberglass in just about every way.

Re: Thoughts on Cardinal LoE-340 glass?

Most homeowners in my area are getting rid of solar screens, but if they help you accomplish your goals, by all means keep them.

Re: Thoughts on Cardinal LoE-340 glass?

I would just stick with 366 and enjoy a little more light.

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

Cutting the sheetrock and sill back is the correct way to install the window. Many companies in Texas have (unfortunately for the homeowner) gone to sliding the window inside the sheetrock and sill because it’s faster and easier on them. However, it then requires additional snap in trim around the p...

Re: Why are Pella and Andersen not liked here?

First, since the professionals here are all specialize in replacement, we get to see firsthand what lasts and what doesn’t last; which windows hold up well and which windows do not. Second, most if not all of us, have sold and installed both of the brands mentioned at some point in our careers. This...

Have you tried calling Don Young to ask? (214) 630-0934

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

I don’t think the NT Executive has changed at all, with respect to the size of the frame and sashes.

While I am a big fan of Don Young’s thermally-broken aluminum windows for south Texas homeowners, I do not feel the same about their vinyl offerings. NT is a better choice.

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

NT’s minimum width for a single hung is 13”. You could replace it with a casement, if you want to be able to open the window. There is no code requirement, that I’m aware of, requiring an operable window in the laundry room

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

I don’t think there are any worthwhile upgrades to the Executive. I’ve seen a demo of the Suntuative glass a while back, but haven’t heard much about it since. Sorry I can’t help you on that. I’ve heard of Ringer windows, but don’t know anything about them. However, being close to a good barbecue re...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

NT comes standard with sash reinforcement which is highly recommended here in Texas. NT is about ½” narrower from edge of frame to edge of glass which is nice. Simonton does not offer reinforcement as a standard feature, it’s an option that must be added for an additional charge. Simonton was recent...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

I agree with WoW. Best to use one contractor for both projects when possible. If you go with two contractors, they need to work together on timing so that the window contractor can cut the siding back and install with a nailing fin, with the siding contractor coming right behind him. Then you have t...

You’re welcome econchic.

For the record, I am a big fan of Don Young’s thermally-broken aluminum windows, and they are a fine company. Their vinyl windows, IMO, leave much to be desired.

Re: Sunrise or NT Presidential in Dallas area

Don Young is based in Dallas, so they are readily available. Here’s the bottom line for me. It’s easy to criticize Sunrise, and yes their sill is flimsier than I’d prefer. But that can be somewhat overcome by a good installer who knows how to shim properly and uses spray foam around the perimeter. I...

Re: Sunrise or NT Presidential in Dallas area

NT is a decent mid-grade vinyl window, but it’s not in the same league with Sunrise, Soft-lite, Okna and the other premium grade vinyl windows. I would always recommend one of the premium grades, if it fits in the budget, because they are far more selective in choosing who can sell and install their...
