Re: Grand Rapids Vinyl Replacement Window Estimates
Are those Simontons installed? Not a fan of the pocket sill but that seems like a good price.
If you want to stay in the $3600 range, I would stick with the Simontons. If you want to go higher, either of the Gorell's or the Simonton 9800 (Should be the equivalent to the 5500).

Re: HOW DOES THIS EFFECT YOUR MARKET?
Hmmm, the customer gets a lower-end product, the dealer has to sell a million units to pay the bills, the sub also has to install a million units to pay the bills thereby encouraging quantity over quality....leading to overworked staff and unhappy customers. Sorry, but I fail to recognize the "...

Re: possibly a valid reason for wanting a cheap window....?
Cheap is up to you. Some windows may not do much better than what you have. If you don't open them and want relative cheap, get a price on double paned glass (picture style) and put it in, seal it. This is assuming you really are going to rip them out and put in a door there in the not so far off fu...

Interesting. I'll have to ask my supplier about that. I can only imagine what the price is.

Re: Windows in St. Peters, MO
Thanks, the difference in installation cost is $100.00 per window. Seems like the installation cost for the Silverlines is pretty high, though this is the 1st. time I've priced windows. Thanks again. If you want my honest opnion, on price, I wouldn't pay $450 a window for a SilverLine 8500 window. ...

Re: PGT SpectraGuard vs. Pella Thermastar?
PGT is a main seller for me. Solid AI numbers, thick vinyl for strong extrusions, re-enforced meeting rails, full lengh meeting rail lockers. PGT is a Florida company that specializes in Impact windows. This is there non impact window to compete for the non-impact window market. It is a solid perfor...

Re: Windows in St. Peters, MO
I don't know who MGM is so I have no opinion. Seems that the SilverLine guy is selling you the windows, pretty close to cost and then making it up with install. If the installer can install the 8500 right it will be an ok window, but check the numbers on them because you have to have LowE3 and foam ...

Re: Window quotes Simonton, Ellison, American Craftsman, Acan
I dont know how good/bad the Ellison is, but if you want the tax credit and a decent window, I'd go with the Simonton. I just noticed the the SilverLine isn't tax qualified at that price. They have to add foam and LowE3 to it to be qualifed. If you like the SilverLine, ask HD to give you a price on ...

Re: Window quotes Simonton, Ellison, American Craftsman, Acan
To exand of WOW, the AC 8500 is a Silver Line 8500. They are Ok, but not a great window, they are know to have "crooked" sashes depending on the width of the window.
Also are these prices "out the door"? No install?

Re: Overwhelmed and need help
Gorell and now Simonton (though even more expensive than Gorell), exteriors can come painted.
Check out both their sites and you can fill out a request to get in touch with a local installer, or call one of the supply houses and ask for for references.

If looking for a thinner profile frame, consider the Gorell 5100. If available in your area.

Re: Backer Rod....
Backer Rod is typically used to fill gaps for Caulk not insulate.
Foam is good for air/water barriers and insulation and batton is good for insulating in a cavity.
