Re: To foam or not to foam upon installation
You seem to be dead set on having this installation done your way and not the way the board pros have advised is best practices methodology. That is definitely your choice as you are paying the bill. So, my advice is to go ahead and do it your way. Who is it going to hurt if you don't get the very b...

Re: Kensington Windows
I sold for a company in the 80s that sold HeatMirror in the first 3 major company's products it was offerred in. NuSash vinyl windows, Hurd wood windows and 4 Season Sunrooms. We sold all three. When the Heat Mirror started failing en masse we hit the trifecta of pain for a few years. All the people...

Re: INSTALLER QUESTION
I am a Makita fan as well. Used them since cordless drills came out. I tried other brands over the years but Makita was always my favorite, especially the 18V Lithium like this one I bought about 7 years ago. BTW, more Makita power tools are made in the USA than any other. They are a Japanese owned ...

Re: Help! Replacement windows Waukesha WI
I'm pretty sure the Berkshire is just a re-branded Alside Excalibur.
The guy Homesealed that is being recommended has much better windows, Okna-HiMark for example. I would contact him by clicking on the 'Quote' button in his profile. I'm sure you will be happy you did.

Re: Single hung v/s Double hung
One of the main reasons people go with single hungs is to get a more airtight window, as many brands of double hungs are very leaky. A single hung does away with one sash moving which theoretically will make a more airtight window. With the Okna 500 double hung having a .02 air infiltration rate, th...

Re: Incomplete installation and withholding payment
Ultimately I am not against the concept (we do it in some cases), but I generally prefer a more conventional down payment/final payment option that offers fairness and protection to all parties. Just my $.02. I agree. I am not going to buy $15,000 of custom size windows without a downpayment. I lea...

Re: Window installer needed for Softlite LS in NYC area
Ok, that makes sense if they are a Building Supply House. I was thinking they were a window installation dealer like all of us are.

The Softlite dealer doesn't install windows so you have to find your own installer?? I've never heard of such a thing.

Re: Vinyl Window Lead Times
+1 The painted orders can easily go 9 weeks.
The outsourced items you were asking about are things like tempered glass and the epoxy paint product. Very few window plants have their own tempering ovens.

Re: Okna Reviews Missing?
Ed's - with all due respect, the Okna windows are not listed in the Top Rated listings here, nor are they mentioned in the Top 100 windows on the sister site. I believe that is what Fenestra was referencing. The top 100 was from Window & Door magazine and was based on yearly sales figures of co...

The Sunrise, Verde, Restoration, and Vanguard window are all based on the same extrusion with just different option packages to differentiate between the lines. Eric - Thanks. Is that to say that these three recommended platforms do not provide the same amount of glass area as the Essentials "...
