Re: Exterior detail trim
Best practice is to re-wrap the woodwork. Once could possibly just wrap the stops, but now you will have an additional caulk line to get dirty plus the metal will look different and much newer. I would not be a fan of that.

Re: Sliding Patio Door - options options and confusion
I install three of those series and like the OKNA the best. It operates super nice and is built like a tank. I feel it's sill area is more air tight too. The Sunrise will have a slightly lower threshold interior profile in regard to what you have to step over to exit/enter through the door. It featu...

Re: Cant find U factor of existing windows based on NFRC label
One would simply hold a lighter somewhat near the glass from the interior and count the reflections of the flame to obtain how many lites of glass that IGU has. That doesn't appear to be Schuco glass? Schuco glazed their windows with black spacer called TPS (Thermo Plastic Spacer). That spacer is do...

Re: Help with new windows
An OKNA Insultech 550dx would be perfect married with factory wood jamb extensions according to your wall thickness. This is what we do. It's easy for the trim to be run to the face of the jamb extensions and for the exterior, one can run vinyl siding into the factory j-channel, add wider faced j-ch...

Re: Comparing Quotes.. Can't decide!
The SL Barrington and Classic series are not at what I feel is an acceptable level of engineering and frame quality in this day and age. The Bainbridge and Pro are better since their frame design makes more since in regards to the head extrusion design. I've found them all to be a little too loose t...

Re: Hoppers, what’s recommended?
I've been using the OKNA 500 series hoppers for the last few years and I seem to like them compared to the Sunrise and Soft-Lite versions. Regarding doors most of pros like ProVia, HMI, and Homeguard. With the Philly area you could like a Guida or North East Building Products which both make their d...

Re: Majestic vs Okna 600
Welding vinyl isn't as easy as metal, it likes to melt. I had to once and somehow got it done lol........... "The guy that says it can't be done needs to stay out the way of the guy doing it." I'd like to see that Ideal window sometime. I've heard some good stuff about it, however the lumb...

Re: Help! window replacement underway serious issues
The off-set of the flanged aluminum windows to the interior frame face will be a less that that of even a non-flanged vinyl product, thus the outside of the vinyl window will stick out more proud than what you're used to seeing. This is assuming that that butted to the jamb and stool returns. To pus...

Re: Sliding vs Hinged Patio Doors
For hinged patio doors I like ProVia and HMI. A quality hinged patio door unit pre-finished with screen cost me a dealer more than double what a quality vinyl patio slider does material wise. It also takes a little more time to install. Hinged patio doors need a little more interior room for the act...

Re: Majestic vs Okna 600
That Majestic Ideal window is manufactured in NJ. One would think that it could be optioned with various low-e glass options with SHGC in the .25-.30 range? OKNA's Sunseal accounts for around 5-10% of my glass option upgrades for certain homes with way too much solar penetration here in DE, NJ, and ...

Re: Majestic vs Okna 600
Hi Otto, I do have a website and Facebook business page. I update the FB page weekly with elaborate before, during, and after photo galleries of current projects since I'm the guy stuck in the trenches making things right. Most of us pros on here try not to self promote lead acquisition. If you cont...

I know both of outfits that you have these quotes with. I think that the 600 is nicer personally, however that is quite a price difference. Both are reputable dealers.

Re: Water in wells of new replacement windows
Full screens on sliders will slow down or limit the amount of rain that can enter the pocket sills during down pours.
