Re: Soft-Lite quote qestion

What was the price on the Simonton's?The Soft-lite's will also have much lower air infiltration numbers if that matters. What are the details of the install? The pay back period on triple panes can be very long.I am curious who the local installer is since I'm from Mpls and don't many who install Soft...

Re: To Spray Foam or Not?

Fiberglass insulation is only useful if it is installed into a completely airtight cavity. So if your installer gets the pockets completely sealed, it will be fine. If the cavity is not well sealed, air will move right through it, as will moisture. That's why closed cell foams are far superior. Whe...

Re: Simonton Platinum vs NT Presidential vs Pella vs Jeldwenn

You won't know what is most cost effective until you get other bids.If you have the time get some more bids.On some sub-contractors I use I can take their numbers and double them and still be competitive.

Re: best window choice

RRP is The EPA's new lead laws(renovation, repair and painting).Do the Home Depot quote include any lead based paint(RRP) charges?I would be curious to know what they charge for that.

Re: best window choice

I prefer an interior installation especially if you are not going to wrap the exterior.I would also recommend an interior install for a homeowner since you would be doing a lot of demo work off a ladder.I would also reccomend an interior install if you are not going to cap your exterior.I think some...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

I think if followed the thread from the beginning you could see I as well as at least one other was confused by Ecostar's vague comment .When he asked what a low # was I responded with a # that Canuck used in his post. The number was posted for arguments sake nothing more, although it is a pretty good...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

when I said some of the other pro's I meant more of the other pro's, my mistake. What evidence are you looking for?I never said you said AI#'s are not important just wondering how you came up with .019 as the limit.I think in my previous post I stated that it would be difficult to detect the differen...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

Gimmick or not most of the pro's that post here have pointed out the importance of AI#'s unless the sell windows that have higher AI#'s.I find it comical that you say not to go above the teens in AI#'s when a product that you recommend comes in at 0.19.It would be good to here from some other pro's ...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

I guess whatever you meant my low in your responce to Canuck.Canuck said to look for windows with an AI# of .06 or less.Ecostar said there are many good choices with AI#s in the teens. There are also many junky windows with low AI ratings. If you need a number I'll go with Canuck and say 0.06. If th...
