Re: Thoughts on Alside Mezzo

I wouldn't install that product regardless of location or glass pack. Unimpressive design, too many service issues for my taste. Just my experience

Re: triple pane vs double pane

Okna by far in that comparison. Not in the same league.
I'd agree, get triple pane

Re: Narrowed down to two companies- any advice appreciated

You are trending in the wrong direction here. While ratings as a general rule will tell the stroy of quality, there are always exceptions. There are a few windows on the market that are really low-priced, pretty entry level products that somehow squeeze out a decent rating and baffle everyone as to ...

Re: WASCO vs. Sunrise Windows - Vinyl Replacements

Vanguard is very good. The Wasco is not in the same league from what I can tell. For an apples to apples comparison I'd look at something the Okna mentioned above, that line will actually perform a tick better even than the Vanguard. Still a little confused though about your description of the Sunri...

Re: WASCO vs. Sunrise Windows - Vinyl Replacements

Thank you for your comments and thoughts/research on the WASCO window. In regard to Sunrise, I should point out that the contractor is both selling us the Sunrise windows and installing them. Sorry for any misunderstanding there. Sorry for misunderstanding. That is a better scenario. If you like Su...

Re: WASCO vs. Sunrise Windows - Vinyl Replacements

Sunrise makes a nice window although the thought of using a different company to source the window and installation is not wise. At some point you will have an issue, and it will result in finger-pointing. Window rep blames installer and vice-versa. I'd recommend using a company that sell the window...

Re: Replacement Windows - Big Box Stores

I see those brands mentioned a lot and was able to find a nearby Soft-Lite installer so I was going to have him out. Outside of boards like this, the Soft-Lite searches I found with "reviews" referred to it as an average window. Obviously average could still be better than those I was quo...

Seal failure. You will need a new glass unit.

Re: Energy Armor

Thermal Windows manufactures design by EA. Very dated window. Pocket capture sill (the sloped is a snap in piece). They also filed bankruptcy a few years back if i rememebr correctly. It is not an entirley custom window made for that company either. They basically give a few menu options like the s...

Re: exterior doors and storm doors

$2k is not an extreme. That is a middle of the road price on a single entry door AT WORST, that is good quality. I've seen guys sell Provia and the like up in the range of $10k for a single unit, THAT would be extreme. That door probably costs well over $1k at wholesale cost, then add installation, ...

Re: Softlite Pro vs. Vytex Fortis

I agree with Nerd. LS or Elements, or Okna.
The Pro is outdated and nothign special, and Vytex does not have the cleanest company history with warranty coverage etc.

Re: Soft Lite Barrington, HiMark Okna, Sunrise...Which is better

They Okna 800 is in another class. Its best of this group. IF the Sunrise is the Retstorations then it is a close second, and in the top group. The Barrington is not a bad window, but a major step down. The Sunrise if the base model, is again, not bad, but still a B+ compared to A+. U factor and air...

Re: Revere Sovereign vs Vytex Fortis - Worth the difference?

I did see around the forums that people generally didn't like the Reveres, was just having a hard time pinpointing what exactly was bad about them. Ironically enough, some companies are still using designs from the 80's and 90's, including TI and Revere. You'll see an upgrade given low-e coatings a...
