Re: Window Replacement Replacements

I was just making reference to the fact that tempered glass is required when the glass is within 18” of the floor AND over 9 sq. ft. It has to meet both conditions, and sometime that changing tall single hung windows to picture windows will cause the upgrade requirement. It sounds like your slider c...

Re: Window Replacement Replacements

Those Yankees don’t understand the south. Since it’s so hot and muggy down here, picture windows are very common in lieu of operators, where they are allowed. The problem can be with size and/or proximity to the floor requiring tempered glass in a picture window that wouldn’t be required in a ...

Re: Looking for recommendations in Lincoln, NE

I’m not sure there are any other premium level brands with distribution in Nebraska. Soft-lite perhaps, but Okna certainly does not.

I’d check with Soft-lite to see if they have any area dealers. If they don’t, Sunrise is going to be your best option.

Re: Window Replacement

Sunrise is available in DFW and it’s going to be your best option for a premium vinyl window - just make sure it’s a Vanguard or Restoration series. For mid-grade vinyl, NT’s Presidential, Energy Master or Traditions are all good options. For thermally-broken aluminum, Don Young’s 8200 series is a g...

Re: Big project - quotes all over the place

Another recommendation for HomeSealed. Replacing your windows is a big project, and one that should only be done once. Doing it right the first time is a no-brainer, and you won’t find a better company to do business with.

Re: Low E on 4th surface; good or bad?

I second the recommendation on contacting Windows on Washington. Replacement windows, if well chosen, should be a one-time purchase. Getting the glass package right is critical to your long-term satisfaction with the windows you choose. Windows on Washington has the knowledge and experience needed t...

Re: Sunrise dealer in DFW

They may be the only one. Was it a very large state-wide company? I thought they had a couple of smaller dealers there, but maybe not.

Re: Austin, Tx Replacement Windows

If by sleek, you mean the common definition of shiny and smooth, then vinyl will fit the bill just fine. Sunrise is available in the Austin area, and will probably be your best choice in a quality product. While there are better performing brands, none of them are available there. Texas homeowners a...

I agree with Wow. It’s probably one of the best options for homeowners in DFW. Interesting that the sales rep never gave you a model name.

Re: Insulated Glass Units - Dallas

DY tba windows will typically be more expensive than vinyl windows. The aluminum glazing bead is substantial and holds up well to hail stones.

Re: Window & Patio Door Quote Compare

Sunrise Restorations - very good window, but not on par with Soft-lite or Okna Pella 250 - wouldn’t recommend it Renewal by Andersen - good looking window, but subpar performance and overpriced Soft-lite Imperial LS - best of the windows you’ve had quoted, a great window Provia Endure EN600 - no per...

From the sound of it, you’re replacing 8 double hung windows with 4 sliding windows.

Re: Window & Patio Door Quote Compare

I would recommend contacting HomeSealed as well. Not only does he offer some of the best products in the industry, he installs them all using methods that far exceed the average contractor. HomeSealed enjoys a stellar reputation in the industry, and you’ll find them to be among the most knowledgeabl...

Re: Insulated Glass Units - Dallas

WoW nailed it with great advice on all counts. Cardinal makes one of the best IG units, but they do have QC issues with tempered glass out of the Waxahachie plant. Regardless, that’s who I would use.

Burris vinyl is fine for a home you intend to sell soon.
