Re: help with new windows for rental house
American Craftsman is a rebranded Silverline and they are owned by Andersen. that said, anything by american craftsman/ silverline is for rental properties only and not a brand i would ever install in a primary residence. if this job was for your own home and you wanted some quality, i would recomme...

Re: New home recommendation- Simonton vs Maritech
you may want to broaden your search. some higher quality windows that are available in texas are soft lite and sunrise. i am pretty confident you would find both of thses brands better than what you have seen. there is a pro who frequents these boards and offers his free time to home owners looking ...

Re: Viwinco windows
Viwinco are on the lower end , similar to other lower end brands such as MI Windows , excalibur ,and Silverline . Lower quality from both an engineering perspective as well as performance. Problem with alot of contractors is they know nothing about quality and only install whatever happens to be sol...

Re: is the "poison pill" in window contracts legal?
if you are that worried about a contract then perhaps you are'nt comfortable with the company. i never had a customer scrutinize a contract that closely. they either trust me or they dont. quite frankly if a customer immersed themseves that much into one of my contracts i would probably tell them we...

this is the feedback we love to here. the quality of work is indictative of how the pro's on this board like to operate.
as far as a few nails, that is normal if you think about how thin nails are and they can easily blend into the ground. sounds like a stellar job by a great company.

agree, the Elements would be the best performer out of the group followed by the imperial LS and Sunrise which are all high quality products which i recommend.

Re: Tyvek behind vinyl siding and j channel calk
I always use tyvek, you need it for 3 reasons: 1) protects the sheathing from water/ wind driven rain. 2) creates a good air barrier. 3) its breathable with a very high perm rating. I also prefer insulated siding as thats what i use on 99% of my siding jobs. Keep in mind the salesman from HD isnt go...

Re: Comparisons and what about lead?
alot of it is marketing and scare tactics but the outside install will render less dust. that said, contractor needs to be certified.
i would immediately disregard alside and viwinco..they are lower quality.

Re: Interceptor versus Superspacer
i like a non metal spacer. ive been using non metal spacers for years with great success. intercept isnt bad, its just that there are better/ newer alternatives that render much better performance numbers. there are some other brands that get better performance numbers with argon than what some do w...

Re: Window Selection or keep looking
the Newpro guy lives in the "land of make believe" . Vinyl is one of the most versatile and environmentally friendly building products available. i also doubt the Newpro salesman really believes that nonsense. i can tell you the MI/ certainteed are garbage as is the pella. i would expand m...
