Re: Cracks in bottom corners of vinyl window sill.

I'd follow up with WOW so we can see the pics... Have you contacted the installation company for input? That would be my first course of action.

Re: Warranty Comparison

Obviously this goes without saying, but I would pick an installation company who is likely to be in business for years to come... Unfortunately, that might not be the company with the "best" price. Hypothetically even if that company did go out of business, there should be a builder supply...

Re: Warranty Comparison

Most manufacturer's have limitations on covering labor. Some are 1, 2 years or more, others offer no labor coverage at all. Many installation companies will cover that cost however as a benefit to their clients. I would not make your decision based on the manufacturer's labor coverage.

Re: Help on Replacement Windows, Milwaukee Area

Alside Preservation is a mediocre product imo, and waay overpriced. The Elements is a very nice product, but also overpriced in this case.... Personally I feel that anyone selling a vinyl insert of any quality at $1000 per opening or more is gouging... $800ish should be the ceiling unless there are ...

Re: alleviating window condensation

Every window has a CR (condensation resistance) rating which determines how well it will resist condensation. More than likely, a high quality double pane will take care of all of your issues, however, when in doubt, triple pane will usually perform even better. Ask the person quoting you what the C...

Re: Simonton - Specs and Installer for Chicago area?

I'd suggest talking to Window4U, he is a highly regarded and respected "forum pro" and will surely be able to meet or exceed what you are looking for in a window.

Re: So what's the best approach to getting new windows?

Get as many estimates as you need to until you find a company who you feel you can trust, that offers a high quality product. Personally, I'd toss out anyone who has a high-pressure pitch and windows over or around $1000 per opening. I'd also add that the Softlite Imperial LS is basically the same a...

Re: windows to be replaced by window world

I don't consider Window World a competitor at all. Their market is mainly people who's homes have formica countertops, low end carpet, no frills appliances, and budget computers so that they post anonymously on the internet. Window World is for those who simply can't afford the better products and ...

Re: windows to be replaced by window world

Jaiso, you are neglecting to see that none of us professionals who contribute here even compete with WW. We are not owners of Clear Choice, or any other "bargain" window franchise that fights WW for the low-end vinyl market. We sell high quality products at reasonable prices. It is very in...

Re: Certainteed/Viwinco Windows Poor Quality and Warranty

I had 16 Certainteed windows installed in 2001. Soon after 8 sashes seals failed and the windows clouded. They sent new ones. Then three more went. They sent new sashes for me to install. Then I had 5 more fail. Now they won;t replace them, just send me the glass. I got a bad cut. They told me the ...

Re: windows to be replaced by window world

Hi. If you truly want an opinion on a specific company I would highly recommend you check the company's accreditations and such. This board is full of companies, and of course, competitors will never give you an honest opinion of any company, especially Window World. Window World has run many over ...

Re: What company manufactures Window World Windows?

I would highly suggest trying a few other local guys. You should be able to find a much higher quality product for not much more, especially if you are looking at the 6000.
