Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

I guess whatever you meant my low in your responce to Canuck.Canuck said to look for windows with an AI# of .06 or less.Ecostar said there are many good choices with AI#s in the teens. There are also many junky windows with low AI ratings. If you need a number I'll go with Canuck and say 0.06. Basis...

Re: Comparing Apples with Apples

Holy deja-vu batman! ... Seriously Canuck, let me guess, your windows have----ooh, let me think....... a .06 Ai??? ....... Larjenjojo, I mostly with what canuck said. Most companies sell their windows "installed" and typically don't break down labor and materials. If you pu...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

I get your point and that was the reason that I bolded "not the preeminent evaluation measurement" . I tend to think it is of more value that you do, but it is not the end all and be all of performance. I also think that the 0.15 to 0.18 should be the absolute maximum number not to exceed...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

I missed all the fun.... Randy and I are the two vocal proponents of air infiltration as a consideration when it comes to evaluating window performance. As I have stated and I know Randy feels the same way, it is to be used as an evaluator and is not the preeminent evaluation measurement . Th...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

Whoa, I avoided this thread because I've never heard of the energy saver 8000, and now I missed out on all the fun.... I have to say, I agree more-so with Eco and buddy. Nobody is saying that a super -low AI rating is a bad thing, but as already proven, it certainly does not exclusively determine a ...

Re: Cracks in bottom corners of vinyl window sill.

Just an opinion, but those "hairline" cracks could have shown up after installation, if the window wasn't installed properly with shims in the correct places, the frame could have bowed out and initially flexed, build up of stresses, both from the installation and thermal, would have caus...

Re: ALSIDE Sheffield or Champion?

Lacking areas imo: Sheffield: outdated design, lose a ton of glass space. Champion: Having been a former installer, they are pretty flimsy and don't offer many options.... In comparison to other options, both have lower quality materials, construction, performance (U-values, air leakage, etc), lack ...

Re: ALSIDE Sheffield or Champion?

The sheffield does actually have foam.... Neither of those are a very good choice though imo. I'm not a fan of "hard sell" tactics, or alside windows in general. I have installed a fair amount of both those products in the past, and there are plenty of better options out there.

Re: Help on Replacement Windows, Milwaukee Area

Thanks for the input buddy. I realize that there are a lot a companies selling windows for $1200 per opening, and that on the east and/or west coasts (or anywhere besides my own city) prices will vary substantially. Maybe my comments can only apply to my own market, but I stand by them 100%. Any tim...

Re: Help on Replacement Windows, Milwaukee Area

Elements is a damn good window with great performance numbers. its a tad on the high end but not ridiculous. that said,if the company does a good installation you are getting a good deal imo. i'd rather see you spend a bit more and have things go as they should opposed to going with a less expensiv...

Re: Certainteed/Viwinco Windows Poor Quality and Warranty

D&WP, Is that only for the Plygem "west coast" warranty? If not, that is incorrect. I can't speak for other regions, but PlyGem only covers labor for two years here (WI)...This is based on the warranty brochures that we receive and distribute with every order. Also, PlyGem DOES warrant...
