It is impossible to make a dark brown vinyl that won't fade. I've seen too many brown vinyl windows that are almost pink after as little as 5 years. That is why most vinyl window manufacturers -- especially the large ones, won't do brown. Those that do make brown, such as Great Lakes and Republic do...

I am really close to getting windows installed and have been looking at windows at Lansing Building Products in Richmond. The contractor that I work with has been dealing with Lansing for over 20 years and he will only do business with Lansing. They don't sell Shuco though. I am looking at their pr...

Without knowing the specifics of your particular job, its tough to comment on the price. Are you looking at white windows or woodgrain? The two large multi unit casement windows are definately going to push your average cost per opening up over that $600-800 range. If you just look at the DHs themse...

All things being equal which window do you feel was the best? I know the Schuco comes standard with triple pane, krypton, TPS spacer, edge deletion, steel reinforced sashes and PAL locks. Lindsey and Simonton don't have any of these. It stands to reason that the Schuco will be slightly more expensiv...

I'm sure you'll be impressed with the Schuco. Compared to the windows you've mentioned so far there really isn't a comparison. IMHO.

Of the two, Simonton is by far a better built window and a more stable company. HD sells the Simonton 5500. You can find companies in the TC that sell Simonton's Impressions 9800, which is Simonton's premium window -- that has a few options that the 5500 doesn't have. The price between the two is us...

NationalsFan Having experiance selling all three windows you are looking at -- I have to say, you really won't be going wrong no matter which window you ultimately choose. My .02 worth: 1.) Simonton is a larger company, and their delivery and service from a dealer standpoint has a faster turnaround ...

Here's my advice. 1.) Use the request a quote button on this site to get at least one of your quotes. It won't cost you a thing but it supports the administrators of the site. You'll get matched with a contractor in the area that can help you out. 2.) For the money you're looking at you most likely ...

Re: Vinylmax - anyone have experience or opinions?

I searched the forum for Vinylmax as well as this rebate fund and I did not find much info. That is why I am posting.....We got a quote for 16 triple-pane Krypton-filled double-hung windows for about $12,000. However, if we are able to cash in on this refund in 47 months, we will get almost $9000 a...

The Hurricane Zone window is the 4000 with laminated glass. It is an available option -- whether your dealer knows or realizes it or not. As for the BBB report, you should check out your local dealer -- not necessarily the manufacturer as its the dealer who you'll be having direct contact with.

I'll second that sentiment. I'm not selling them either...the extended wait period, no exterior screens, no exterior handles on patio doors...I've heard nothing but problems on this board. I'll wait until the bugs are worked out on someone else's dime.

The first time I saw that patio door was in Schuco's own demonstration trailer -- and I noticed the same thing! I was told that an exterior handle is available, but the dealer has to specifically order it, it isn't standard (stupid I know!) I'll bet your dealer didn't know this since the product is ...

You people really crack me up. You come here, read a few posts, form a few opinions and now you are window experts. You act as if a sales rep is a bad thing. True there are some tin men out there, and if you read a few posts here you'll pick up enough insight to know when you are talking to one. But...

Window Concepts doesn't make their own window...they sell Republic windows out of Chicago. They've been using that pitch that they "own the factory" and "make their own windows" for a long time because it sounds good to homeowners who don't know any better. As for other windows i...
