Re: Florida Window Replacement Help

I like PGT, but what are you looking for in a window? The 2200 is a good window, the design is built for block structures and is based off the 2100 series new construction window. The 2100/2200 is the most basic model for PGT. I use it for certian applications and as a "budget" window. The...

Re: Anderson Silverline

The only problem I've had in 10 years with any SilverLine window (that I have installed), is the balancers had to be adjusted because they were slipping due to a heavy sash. That is any easy fix done with a special screw that they supply. That is very rare too. Opinions run deep. I will neither smas...

Re: Anderson Silverline

I've seen the 9500 and it still looks and feels cheap to me. I could never recommend anything by silver line due to all the complaints about air leakage and warpage. The vinyl they use is of the lowest grade and adding some bells and whistles to the 9500 does nothing to obscure the hidden negatives...

Re: Anderson Silverline

One of the biggest issue with SilverLine is installation. Beyond cost, SL's windows can be tricky to install, one screw out of place and you might as well put a screen in the opening. Installers tend to be "slap dashy" and that causes problems. Once installed correctly they will last a goo...

Re: Anderson Silverline

IF you are going to stay with SilverLine, I'd actually go with a 9500.

Re: Anderson Silverline

Jax, I sell in the N. Florida market. If you need help or have any questions, I will be more than happy to help. I am a dealer for Gorell, PGT and even SilverLine and a few other brands so I am familiar with all of them. Edit, and no you don't have to "find" me or call me or anything, just...

Re: Window mfr recommendation for TampaBay, FL area

Gorell makes a nice impact, but their frames are very bulky. Last I checked, the Tampa area was around $250 for install.

Other options in your area are:

Custom Windows
PGT
Simonton

Re: JeldWen and American Craftsman vinyl windows comparison

American Craftsman = SilverLine.

Better than JeldWen in my opinion, but you HAVE to make sure they are installed correctly or they will leak like the window is open.

Re: What is a head spander?

"Head Expanders". They are molded vinyl that fits like a hat on top of replacement windows. Typically used in "wood out" replacement windows.

Re: Replacement window dilemma

Most likely going to have to fill it. You can do an inside measure if the window will push past the brick a little. then wrap the exterior. A good bender can dress the exterior to be nice.

Re: Replacement window dilemma

Is that to the front and back of the shutter, or left and right to the shutter?

Assuming interior shutters. And assuming your brick on the exterior is slightly smaller in width than the interior.

Re: Simonton vs. PGT vs. Alside

I'd put a PGT (any series) and Simonton up against any Alside window.

My personal opinion.

The Spectra Guard has a .05 AI rating and for Simonton I would look at the Platinum or 5500 series. Both can come with glass breakage warranties from the factory.

Re: New to windows, please help me?

Don't know anything about the other window. Norandex ViewPoint 6000 is an Atrium 6000.

Decent window, although I am not a fan of their frames, they will/should hold up nice if all you are looking for is a decent window to put in your home.

Re: Replace sash only

Seems pretty cheap for even glass. Be carefull, and don't pay up front for IG units. Also make sure you have something in writing about the Glazing Beads, as they may be brittle and want to break.

Don't know anything about Wincore's. Simonton 5500's are good windows though. How many windows?
