Re: Please clear up a question about window frames/sashes
WOW, the HOA is the cities Historical Association. A lot of the bigger municipalities have an historical committee that targets special homes and areas to keep original as possible. In most cases the HOA isn't going to be that critical about the rail and style sizes. Their main goal is making sure y...

Re: Removing adhesive from vinyl window and doors
I use Goof-Off on a cloth rag! It will take it off easily. Then you can use one of those green scouring pads you use on pans to buff it up. The green pad buffs it up well. Don't use a lot of solvent on the window. It can soften the vinyl!

Re: Install nailing fin over rigid foam?
Bottom line on caulking is simple. If Simonton calls for it on their "Installation Guidelines", they better be caulked! If not it could void your warranty. We must remember the Code is very specific on who is right and who is wrong. Installation Guidelines come with every window (hopefully...

Re: is the "poison pill" in window contracts legal?
Minnesota always seems to have all the shady bastards. Yes a contract is legal and binding without any money down. The Poison Pill theory is just another way companies try to play in the shaded areas. The MN Department of Labor & Industry (DOLI) just sits around waiting for these idiots. Those l...

Re: Ridge vent, gable vent
Ken, you need to have a long chat with your installer. Just because they seem nice and you feel they did ok, that's not what you paid for. You need to stand your ground and make sure the issues you have with your contractor are cleared up. If you let them skate on it they'll just keep on doing it wr...

Been out of the loop for awhile but just dropped in. Almostdone the Lindsay company has been aquired by another Manufacturer from what I hear. Dont hold it as gospel but you may want to check. I would recommend standing clear until all the controversy is over. Dave will do you well. He's been in the...

Re: Awning Window vs Double Hung
I'm going to disagree on the airflow theory. The Doublehung window will out perform overall ventilation of any other window. The DH was made just for that reason. As my Mentor (FeneX) once told me, "it's all about Physics". The DH is the most mis-used window on the market. I hardy ever see...

How can you guys answer this question without any knowledge of the application, or am I missing something? Tarheel, In order to really understand your dilemma we need some more info. I understand the two different sized window jambs, we see it daily. Are you talking about a "Full Frame" wi...

Re: Backer Rod....
Time to pee in the Cornflakes again. Here's my take on things gentlemen. Backer rod is used as an insulator around windows on a daily basis. I know your all saying hmmmmmmm. In the Commercial Industry!!! We do it all the time around aluminum doors and windows we install in malls and schools. The onl...

Re: Trouble closing vinyl double-hungs
The Lowes reliabilt window in most areas is made by Jeldwen. Lowes just has them made under the Reliabilt name as an exclusive product. Most of the big box stores have an exclusive product made for their own private label. Just like many other doublehungs sometimes they have issues at the meeting ra...

Re: Noise problems
Merc, there are a couple issues to think about when it comes to sound. First is what type of window did you have installed? Was it a full frame replacement or an insert. If you had an insert window installed (which I'm betting on with Sears) your noise may be coming around the new unit. Your old win...

The TeQ works great here. I'm bias though, I have a connection directly with Henkel. Substantial discount on all my OSI products. I just have to buy in quantity which isn't always practical.

Re: Any Tax Credit Hiccups?
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 has been getting it's share of "False Claims". They are slowly picking out all the false filings and imposing fines on the contractors that did them. They may not get you right away but they'll be going through them hot and heavy after this ye...
