Thoughts on Beldon, or any other Austin installers here?

Hello again. So I finally decided on my window and siding project (discussed in another post) and found out today my siding contractor is now longer able to install my chosen window product (something about they discontinued their relationship w/ the manufacturer). Back to evaluate options... I subm...

Re: Thoughts on Cardinal LoE-340 glass?

So I looked up the info on my current solar screens. I have Phifer SunTex 90. Many folks up north may not have seen solar screens - they are great for privacy but not so great for looking out of a window, especially at an angle. Here is what they look like: https://img1.wsimg.com/isteam/ip/e49f34ad-...

Re: Thoughts on Cardinal LoE-340 glass?

Thanks WoW. Didn't realize Yuma was that much hotter. You make some good points about the significant improvements the 366 will give me, but I am worried it will be too bright compared to the solar screens. I could still add the solar screens back outside the new windows, but they tend to block the ...

Re: Thoughts on Cardinal LoE-340 glass?

Thanks all. If Austin is mild, I'd hate to see hot ! Austin is further south than Jacksonville, FL and all of Arizona and Georgia. We are actually looking to darken the home office especially. Just not sure how to calculate it to compare to a 90% solar screen - we want it darker than that. The home ...

Thoughts on Cardinal LoE-340 glass?

I couldn't find any discussion on this glass option. I am going to have my windows replaced here in near Austin. I have just two windows on my southwest side. Both are large sliders (6050 and 5040), one is in a dining room and the other is a home office. The LoE-340 glass sounds very tempting with i...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

Thanks Randy - good info about the spacer needed for laminated glass. We only have one laminated window above the tub and it is the only window in that room so it won't be noticeable. I have decided on the Duralite then as it looked a little bit better especially if it costs less/same warranty. I wi...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

I got my answer about AL from DYC. The said the posted results (.17) were accurate for the window that was built for the test. The cynic in me thinks it may be related to their advertising for their aluminum windows - "It would take FIVE DYC 8200/8800 Series windows to leak as much air as ONE o...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

So the DYC windows will meet egress if we cut back the drywall and install from the outside, so that is good news. :D I am puzzled why the DYC website lists the air leakage info on the single hung at .17-.19 cfm/ft2 which is higher than that listed for their double hung at .11 cfm. Their double slid...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

So I picked the vendor with the NT quote contingent on answering some questions satisfactorily. The question that missed was this: 1) Will these meet egress requirements (the actual measurements of the current opening is 35 1/8 by 59 1/8) - E110 - EXECUTIVE SERIES VINYL SINGLE HUNG WINDOW - 3050 5 T...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

So i got a quote for Don Young windows. They are quoting 16 vinyl sliders and single hungs plus one aluminum picture windows (1 ft wide) for the same price as the 17 NT Executive quote. Warranties and performance seem about the same. However, the siding work is $1900 more. I am not finding any good ...

ConstantChange,
I am curious on what you decided? My choices are similar to what you had and was wondering how the project turned out?

JWood,
I am in a similar boat as you were. What did you pick for windows, and how is it doing 2+ years later?

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

I noticed Vendor #3 was quoting double hung w/ grids throughout the whole house and asked him to change do grids on front only and rerun the quote with a single hung option. He came back with quotes of $9665 for single-hung Simonton perfection or pro finish (said they are the same). Removing grids o...

Re: Whole house or partial house replacement.

Thought of another question, the current window in the laundry room is a 1050 single hung. All of the proposed replacements are picture windows. I am wondering if I could get that size in any new window as a single hung, or if i should just keep the existing window, or something else. I guess anothe...
