Re: Owens Corning Solace windows

The Solace is made for OC by Sunrise. Its a very nice window, just make sure that the price isn't out of line because it often is.... RBA= decent product, but always overpriced and most of their dealers engage in some shady tactics from what I've seen... Pella wood Architect and Designer series are ...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

I guess whatever you meant my low in your responce to Canuck.Canuck said to look for windows with an AI# of .06 or less.Ecostar said there are many good choices with AI#s in the teens. There are also many junky windows with low AI ratings. If you need a number I'll go with Canuck and say 0.06. Right...

Re: Comparing Apples with Apples

Where are you located?.. That shgc would be very detrimental if you live in a colder climate, however would be good in a hot, sunny area of the country. ... Im don't personally have any experience with that product, however here is a link to a discussion that I'd recommend you read from top to botto...

Re: ALSIDE SHEFFIELD OR CHAMPION??? HELP!!

I have done some research and found that Alside Sheffield is an excellent window except for the fact that the design is outdated....meaning it loses more glass space than other windows. He would prefer to sell me the Excalibur..by Alside...because it would show more glass. And he said he can get ot...

EcoStar Windows wrote:+1. I couldn't agree more.

The best way to fight back against companies that use shady tactics is to refuse to do business with them.

Re: So what's the best approach to getting new windows?

Two excellent choices, I suggest that you pick the company that you feel better about, as you'll be equally happy with either product.

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

Gimmick or not most of the pro's that post here have pointed out the importance of AI#'s unless the sell windows that have higher AI#'s.I find it comical that you say not to go above the teens in AI#'s when a product that you recommend comes in at 0.19.It would be good to here from some other pro's...

Re: ALLIANCE windows....durable?

Different locks and a few other options. Very similiar feature/option content and ratings though... Although I will say that it is the closest thing that PlyGem offers to a true exclusive... I usually only use their tilt and slide upon request, other than that, its been a little bit since I've looke...

Re: Will Prices Drop After The $1500 Expires?

I can't speak for everyone, but our (meaning my company's) pricing is set based upon our expenses, profit margins, etc. The tax credit is something offered directly to consumers by the government and has no bearing whatsoever on pricing. The only way I'd see anybody's pricing going down is if consum...

Re: ALLIANCE windows....durable?

I like canuck's list except for park avenue. Its an average product that is made by Thermal Industries and usually way overpriced. I'd also add that Plygem Premium/ Great Lakes Grandview 5000 is virtually the same as the Uniframe.

Re: ALLIANCE windows....durable?

Every manufacturer claims they have a great product, so I wouldn't go by that.... Im not particularly familiar with Alliance though, so i'll let someone else comment on that. As for the durability, its very possible for a window to hold up for 30 years, but Id fully expect technology to be advanced ...

Re: Comparing Apples with Apples

Canuck, ditto. I think that you are a highly knowledgeable person and I respect your opinion about the importance of AI even though I disagree. The thing I just cant get over is your assigning an arbitrary number of .06. It just doesn't make sense. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but mys...

Re: Signature 8000 Energy Saver vs Simonton

Yes Todd, folks can get "riled" when something that I believe is not much more than a sales gimmick is portrayed as extremely important in determining a high quality, high performing window.... Other folks get "riled" when something that their sales pitch is predicated upon is ca...
