Can I say...keep shopping without depressing you?

The Simonton is "OK" as is the Radience. But there are better options out there.

Re: Need help - questioning an installation of Okna 800 windows

Probable could have bent a bit of positive slope into that sill cap, but that is going over the J-channel in this case. To you first question, that is correct. There is no way to really "flash" the windows here until you remove the siding or at least 4" of trim around the window openi...

Re: Need help - questioning an installation of Okna 800 windows

Can you post up a picture? The reality is that short of removing the vinyl siding, certainly an option but not one that most homeowners will want to incur, there isn't any applicable "flashing" that will go from the new window and tie into the drainage plane of the home. As far as the wate...

Re: Sliding Door Seal / Draft Problem

Doors are designed to have a bit of play along that interlock so that the door can grow or move along that line. Have you checked to see if you get the door centered, i.e. right in the sweet spot, that it engages both interlocks and provides a relatively tight air seal along both sides? If so...get ...

Why don't you start a new thread and post up your question.

WW installs are a mixed bag. Kind of like monkeys throwing poo at each other. There are better options in DFW.

Re: Can New Vinyl Windows or Sealant Produce "Sweet" Smell?

Wouldn't be coming from the vinyl window itself, but likely the sealants used. Especially in the case of a Landlord/owner, they will use the cheapest labor possible and that "contractor" probably used a crap sealant. Usually clears out in a week or so. I would either leave that room open t...

Re: Air Infiltration or AI as important as R value..

Nuance to it. U-Factor is the inverse or R-Value so a lower U-Factor is ideal. You are correct thought...a window with a mediocre U-Factor and a very good Air Infiltration rating will "dynamically" (i.e. as an installed product in a home) out perform the window with a slightly lower U-Fact...

Re: Aesthetics Concern

Let's see what you are seeing. In some cases you can set the window from the interior and butt it into the exterior stop, but most folks like the lack of painting and other maintenance burden that capping provides.

Done well...capping can be very complimentary.

The first two are relatively well regarded. The last one has less gravitas as a brand.
