Re: Anderson Silverline

I've seen the 9500 and it still looks and feels cheap to me. I could never recommend anything by silver line due to all the complaints about air leakage and warpage. The vinyl they use is of the lowest grade and adding some bells and whistles to the 9500 does nothing to obscure the hidden negatives....

Re: Shopping Sliding Windows and Patio Doors--Polaris, Vinylmax

Polaris Ultra is a great window and a great patio door. 200 per window for just installation without material is very reasonable. 400 for a patio door install is extremely cheap. I've never seen a patio door install done so cheaply. I usually see an average/ basic install for 800-1,000 and that's a ...

Re: Stergis Sliding Patio Doors

Harvey patio door is pretty good. The big problem is they use a vinyl sill and not an aluminum sill as most other quality brands do.
Their pationdoor is better than their windows which are average on a good day.

Re: Patio Door

there are a few quality vinyl patio door brands out there. however, they are not sold in any of the big box stores. brands i recommend are okna, gorell, polaris, sunrise, and soft lite. all of them are very well designed and energy efficient. i can almost guarantee that any vinyl patio door purchase...

Re: United 4800 vs. Silverline 8500

I know the united window very well, it's not something I would ever recommend. I would look at Okna, Polaris ultra, sunrise, or soft lite. If you want to buy from a store, I guess the simonton 5500 is ok. Not as good as the aforementioned but definitely better than united. By the way, the 4800 serie...

Re: Did I get taken?

Alside let's anyone who sells a certain amount of windows re name a window. For example, if I am a contractor and buy a lot of low end Excalibur windows, I cam call it the " Alside elite x series" if I want. I doubt any deception is going on here. Did you research Alside windows before you...

Re: United 4800 vs. Silverline 8500

I think you are dealing with some very low end windows, especially the silver line 8500. It's a very low grade vinyl and designed very poorly. I would expand my search.

Re: What brand of windows should I definitely AVOID?

There can be a difference in the actual vinyl itself. Aside from virgin vinyl, some extenders use more compounds ,better compounds and have much more consistency with their formulations. Then of course you have the design and thickness of the walls. Most companies use "cookie cutter extrusions&...

Re: Alside Excalibur & Harvey Classic Quotes

After seeing all the negative reviews/ posts regarding Excalibur, you're still considering?
Over the long term, the Excalibur will prove to be a very expensive window for something low quality. Ask about MI Windows, they are low quality as well. Maybe you can get a deal.
I just don't get it.

Re: In the process of getting quotes/estimates

Exactly. If you live in a nice area, why throw something cheap in it. Have some pride in your home. Don't you want people to compliment your home? With all the info on this site and others, you still seem inclined to install low quality. I just don't get it.

Re: Cutting Edge Plus

Cutting edge is a low end contractor grade window made by MI Windows . No one complains because they are either used in rental properties or sold to home owners who are only concerned with cost opposed to the educated consumer who is looking for maximum energybefficiency and long term durability.

Re: american craftsman new construcion windows

As for the reasons American craftsman are junk; here are a few. They are designed poorly and designed to meet minimum standards, hence the high air leakage rate. The vinyl they use is a very low grade and not a higher grade that will withstand the various temperature changes and outdoor elements. In...
