Re: Quote feedback requested: Sunrise, Kensington HPP, Alside

I’m with HomeSealed. Trust your instincts and find another contractor. He comes across as a bit “slippery”.

Re: Future of Starmark and stuck in window limbo

My understanding is that Okna is completely out of the old composite lineal for casements, and therefore can no longer match the older casements. They do still have some material in stock to match the old double hungs and sliders, but it will be exhausted in the next couple of months as well.

Re: Quote advice-Berkshire Elite, Provia, Soft-lite

Revere Berkshire is made by Alside and it isn’t any better than Mezzo. The only reason the AL rating gets that low is by using stick on pads at the corners, and the reinforcement is a joke. In a windy state like Kansas, choosing a window that’s as air-tight as possible is important. I seriously doub...

Re: Am I Going Insane?

HomeSealed is right, you have many more than the 18 windows originally stated. The pricing isn’t outrageous based on the number of windows actually being replaced. You might find a lower price, but the pricing you’ve received isn’t outrageously high as they originally seemed.

Re: Am I Going Insane?

Every market has those companies who use hard closes, price drops, etc... to sell windows at a premium price. Unfortunately, you ran into two of them. There will most certainly be a few companies in your area who offer a premium window at a fair and reasonable price, so keep looking and be patient. ...

Re: Provia vs Sunrise

It was my understanding (from my rep) that the Verde had reinforcement like the Vanguard. If it does not (and the website doesn’t list it) I retract my recommendation of it. That’s very unfortunate as an unreinforced Sunrise double hung is susceptible to sagging. It’s also preferable to have the loc...

Re: Provia vs Sunrise

The Verde is equal to the Vanguard, therefore, #2 would be a good choice (assuming the installation is well done).

Atrium is a lot like MI actually. Neither are recommended here.

Sunrise makes one of the nicest casements in the vinyl industry.

Re: Met my installers, more questions (and a roadblock)

I’m not a Milgard fan for multiple reasons, (vinyl thickness, pocket sill, standard strength glass, etc...) Simonton 5500 is a decent window, but it’s an old design and, as you noted, quite bulky. Your assessment of the Asure is correct. Simonton was recently purchased by Ply Gem, a company with a l...

Re: Austin area - many questions about replacement windows (long)

I’ll be interested in hearing your thoughts about the company and their sales presentation afterwards. They are a high pressure operation to be sure, and their pricing will be quite high.

No, nothing wrong. They actually sound sharper than most installers I’ve ran across in the Austin area, and thought they might be some guys I should reach out to is all.

If you have a name and contact number for the two installers who came out, I’d appreciate it if you’d pass it along to me.

Re: Austin area - many questions about replacement windows (long)

Of the options you’ve mentioned, I would choose Simonton with the following upgrades: reinforced sashes, double strength glass in all windows. Simonton is good on warranty service. Sunrise does have at least one dealer in the Austin area, I believe. I wouldn’t recommend the Soft-lite dealer who met ...

If I could pick my business up and move it to the hill country, I’d do it in a minute! Unfortunately, we are just way too busy right now to even entertain the idea of expanding over there. Sorry we can’t help out!

Re: Thoughts on Beldon, or any other Austin installers here?

Sorry, I know nothing about Beldon - good or bad. I would never recommend any Alside products though.
