Re: Couple of newbie questions

Hey all, have been researching for new windows. We are in our first house, and won't stay here long, so don't need the best windows money can buy. Got a few qoutes today, and are trying to decide on a couple of issues. 1. does it really matter if the frame is filled with foam?? 2. is the fusion welde...

Re: Milgard Tuscany

Does anyone have a take on these windows. We were close to locking in on Thermastar (best bang for the buck, 35 windows) until we saw the Milgard Tuscany. It appears to be built at least a little better, U and SHGC is impressive, Smart Touch Lock is also impressive. I figure the quote will come in ...

Is it better to go with the foam filled frame or just air?
never heard of the 4000 by M.I. industries. The 4000 is typically the Alside Sheffield.

Re: Maximum u-factor for Massachusetts?

I sat through a pitch from Penguin, but their high-pressure sales tactics turned me off. And thanks to this board, I've decided against getting a quote from NES. The Schüco product sounds great, but I'm aghast at some of the things I've read about NES. Wish I lived in Illinois. A close, trusted fri...

Re: How do I adjust tension on Certainteed Vinyl

I had windows replaced 10 years ago. Some of these windows operate easily, others require more force than necessary. Is there an adjustment to relieve the tension? A general increase in tension usually indicates a wearing condition and requires lubrication or replacement of the balance assembly to ...

I am referring to the air and night latches. They are a little over an inch long and 1/4 inch wide. The color is desert sand. Where would find them? Thank you, Yvonne They are probably fairly standard and I would suspect that several different window brands would fit them. Take a picture and post i...

Re: Desert Sand Mastic Replacement windows

I had 19 Mastic Replacement windows installed in my home in the late '90. I have two security latches that are broken and would like to replace them. The company that I bought these from has not returned to take care of these and the manufacture in KY has since gone out of business. Does anyone kno...

Re: Need Help

Have been shopping for vinal replacement windows, and it seems the more info I receive the more confusing it becomes. About spacers super spacers of foam, or metal? Foam makes sense as I would imagine it does not conduct heat or cold as well as metal, however doesn't it deteriorate. I've looked at ...

I would be suspect of your contractors reasoning as well. Turn time on the Simontons is very quick as Bill mentionned and I don't see Great Lakes warranty being that much better to justify a switch. He probably isn't making as much money on the Simonton product on you so he switched the line on you ...

I have 13 year old wood casement windows in my home and want to replace them with vinyl double-hung replacement windows. I'm pretty handy and feel I can do this myself. Any tips or websites, books, etc that would get me more info before I jump into this. I can't see paying someone else $500 per win...

Re: Discoloration between double panes

My Gorell windows were installed by distributor in 2001 out of Savannah, GA. I am unable to locate this company now. Three or four of them have condensation in the upper portions at times. Also there is discoloration & ?mold? in the lower halves of two of them. Can you offer any help or possibl...
