Re: Vinyl replacement windows

last time I priced a Simonton reflections with all the upgrades, I could buy an impact window. Maybe times have changed.

You can't go wrong with either one though.

Re: Window & Door replacement

Most companies in Florida don't make awnings becuase they don't make a one lever opening for stacked awnings. Imagine a 3 level awning window that you have to crank out each one. Then imagine the price. There is at least one company in FL that still makes the old single paned, aluminum, multi crank ...

Re: Window & Door replacement

Both Simonton & PGT laminate their own glass in house so they will have a price advantage over other manufacturers who purchase the lami glass from glass manufacturers. TLH I’m curious about what it is you do not like about Simonton’s impact line? I have seen you post favorable remarks about th...

Re: Window & Door replacement

The only place around my part that was offering the PGT lines was a Norandex, which closed down that particular location. I liked what I saw for the price. Since PGT has a dedicated impact window it may have a much more attractive price than what Soft-Lite would have? Can't get Soft-Lite in Florida...

PGT 500's or Shwinco EXT's would be my first choices.

Re: Vinyl replacement windows

PGT makes their 2300 with a Sound and Security glass package. If you don't need impact and are just looking to reduce sound and add some security, then those kind of packages are the way to go.

Re: Window & Door replacement

The biggest thing I don't like about simonton is their impact windows.

Check your codes in your area by calling your building department. Don't get stuck on the bad side of a deal.

The building department may require proof that you can install your hurricane protection.

Re: Vinyl replacement windows

Thank you everyone. I have checked out the Simonton today and also called to have someone come out to quote the PGT windows. Not sure but might look at their impact windows even though I have the hurricane shutters. I understand that they make the house so insulated from outside noises. Simonton 55...

Re: Vinyl replacement windows

PGT, Gorell, Shwinco, Custom Windows. These are the primary for North Florida. Sunrise, OKNA etc, they can't sell windows in FL because they don't test here. Gorell is nice, and although I am a dealer, I think they are a little bulky for impacts. PGT is a good bet. Single hungs (500) can come Miami ...

Humidity? You get that in Ohio? :D

Also, what about the seal betweeen the glass and the sash frame? Probably random, but it may be good to do a least a check and see on it.

Re: Installing in rain

We don't install in the rain because moisture can be trapped between the new window and walls.

Otherwise, it is possible to install in the rain, although I wouldn't recommend it.

Probably not the only company that should be able to do this, but I put togethor a window as follows in a PGT: Picture window on bottom, arch window with legs on top (code: s/o) Arch as legs with an overall height of 23". Bottom picture window has a height of 72" Total height is 95" I...

Re: 87x95 eyebrow window?

We have a fairly large opening, that currently has 2 aluminum single hungs. We are looking to replace all of our windows with vinyl, but this particular hole is causing us some problems. Our hope was to have one large picture window, but we seem to be having a hard time finding someone who will man...
