Re: Double vs Triple Pane

It's 72 wide by 60 high. Sorry, I think it's called a side by side and only the right side opens and slides to the left. The previous owners installed an additional double pane window inside the frame behind the outside double pane window. So there's basically two double paned windows there and I c...

Re: Double vs Triple Pane

So I called a Gorell vendor and got a quote for $1055 for the Gorell 5300 slding Armor Glass window and install ($980 for just the window) for a 72x60 window. I have no idea if this is a good price or not. Gorell said this was the vendor to call who sells this line. The sales person also gave me in...

Re: Double vs Triple Pane

No. Triple makes no difference and can sometimes less the ability to block out noise. If you want to increase the windows STC, you will want to upgrade to laminated glass. That is the first upgrade you will want to invest in. After that, you are looking at a dedicated STC or interior storm window. ...

Re: Please help

A mechanically fastened window should be avoided and certainly at that price point. Mechanically fastened windows (screwed together) are the cheapest of the cheap and not a good product choice. What are the thermal numbers on the other two window? Triple pane is not an issue if the window is capabl...

Re: Drowning in a sea of casement windows!

WOOOO! Page 4. :D OK. I think the winner is going to be OKNA. Here is why (and correct me if this isn't a good decision maker): The large window frame started to split at the seam above and water started to leak down from it during a storm a couple of weeks ago. As a solution, the other companies w...

Re: Vinyl window options

You should look into Marvin Infinity or Marvin Integrity. Both have al all Ultrex (fiberglass) frame and sash and both are available in the colors you desire, tan out, white in. They're NOT painted they're a co-extruded cap stock, for lack of a better term. Both are available in a full frame.

Re: Looking for Perfect Window - Combine Elements with Okna 500

The Gorell Timeless has an air leakage rating in the teens. Personally I feel as though Softlite's literature exaggerates the effect/importance of the AI rating, however it is a much debated issue, so I will leave it at that. As far as being direct competitors, I guess it depends on your criteria. ...

Re: Surnise restorations - sash is bowing - why?

From what it looks like I'd say the wet glazing bead failed. The sash is attached to the glass using a silicone. Vinyl being vinyl will expand and contract a lot. It looks like it broke loose of that silicone to me.

Re: Sunrise Vanguard Replacement windows

It depends on region mostly and like eco said options, instalation etc. In my area for instance, assuming a DP, <.30U and standard installation that would be on the low side for Sunrise. I like everything Sunrise makes, it's a well designed window and they're a good company

Re: Anderson vs Provia replacement windows

I am dealing with 2 different companies - Renewal by Anderson and another company that sells Provia. I have not met with the company who sells Provia windows yet so I'm not sure if they are vinyl or composite. I'm assuming they're vinyl as there don't appear to be any dealers in my area that are se...

Re: Anderson vs Provia replacement windows

I have not seen the provia windows, but I'm not a fan of their doors or their management. With that said it sounds like you saw the renewal by andersen. RBA is not a "bad" window but you can do better for less money. However if you want to compare apples to apples lok at Infinity by Marvin...

Re: Slocomb Windblocker windows

I am just north of Wilmington DE, in Bethel PA. He did not say what the air infiltration rating was (if he did, he called it something else) I have the brochure and here are some of the numbers: UValue 0.27 RValue 3.7 I am ok if the plant is antiquated if the product is good, but it sounds as thoug...

Re: Slocomb Windblocker windows

I am familiar with that product. It's an old bradford design with the side parting strips that recess in order to tilt the top sash in. Nothing to brag about and while I don't know the performance #'s io do know the company owner and it's policy's. I've seen their plant and it's antiquated. Keep loo...
