We purchased our house last summer and this winter we are feeling the draft from the windows..We live in NYC so we get all sort of weather here. Last week we went to a reputable window installer around the area and they recommended the Alside Sheffield (~$450 per window installed) for the best bang for the buck. We are new home owners are we don't know much about windows.. all we hear are pella and andersen..which I am hearing here are not what they crack out to be.
So it seems like a lot of people in this forum strongly are against the Alside Sheffield.. is it really that bad? something about water leaking into the sill? We were told by the installer that we get 2 years labor warranty and the windows are lifetime covered. Alside seems to be around for 50+ years so I can't imagine them closing down anytime soon. The energy star tax credit also helps out too. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.. we really don't have that many other windows brand options in the area. Thanks

Re: Alside Sheffield that bad?
Alside products in general are marginal. If you really like the company, at least ask for an Ultra-maxx. It is basically the same window, ie: same price, except with a sloped sill.
