Preservation windows - Need advice

#1 Post by jclump »

First - lots of great information on this site.

I need to replace 25 wood exterior windows in Michigan that were flashed improperly and are falling apart. I have looked at a few windows including Home Depot Series 400 andersen(not real knowledgable) and a brand made by alside under the Preservation name. The windows are called Energymaxx 7, triple pane, argon gass filled with two low-E panes of glass. The spacer between the glass is structural foam. Preservation claims that the widows already meet the energy star rating for 2015.

The windows are casements.

The guy who cam out was the owners son and had started on an install crew at 14 cleaning up, worked a crew for years and transitioned into sales. He seemed to know his stuff.

I am really interested in other peoples experience with this window

Middle of the road product, usually over priced.

Homesealed,

Thanks for the advice -

I am also having a guy out to show me a Plygem product. Do you or anyone else know about this manufacturer.

You'll be better of with the Plygem. Preservation is Alside's overhyped flagship window. Plygem is GL's mid priced option but it's designed better than the Alside

buddy110 - Thanks a bunch for the information and advice.

Windows on Washington - Thanks of the link -

From what I have been reading on this site the best windows companies are:

Softlite
Gorell
Sunrise

Any others in Michigan that are recommended. What is Gl's highest grade window?

Thanks agian - this is really helpful.

You can add Okna to the list. Uniframe is GL's best offering, but they're not what they used to be. At one time GL was one of the better windows on the market.

PlyGem owns Great Lakes and has recently (within past yr) relabeled ALL of their products as PlyGem. What was the Great Lakes Grandview 4000, 5000 , is now the PlyGem premium series. PlyGem still offers private label versions as Uniframe, Seabrooke, and Lifestyles, but they are all essentially the same. I have sold/installed many of these windows over the years and I can vouch for the quality of the product. It is probably not the absolute BEST window money can buy, but it is a good, solid choice with a nice combination of value, performance, options, etc.

You'll be pleased with both. Sunrise was started by the son of Great Lakes Windows founder. His product closely resembles that of Great Lakes (Plygem)
