Simonton 5500/Gorell 5100 or Preservation

#1 Post by lizbeth5 »

I'm back. I felt like the Ply Gem Premium dealer wasn't being honest with me about things. I got answers here that they told me there wasn't any information for. Too bad, because I thought they were good windows.

Now I'm looking at the Simonton 5500, Gorell 5100 or 5300 or the Preservation. I don't have quotes on the Gorell yet, as I just found out there is a dealer in the Tulsa, OK area. I'm looking at 15 windows, 13 of which are approximately 36x72, all double hung. The other two are side windows by the front door about 11x72. The Preservation dealer also offered a quote on Weatherlok for a little less, but I'm having a hard time finding anybody with experience with those. I've also been told the glass has to be tempered in all the windows because they are less than 18 inches from the floor.

I know I have some negotiating room, but right now with the Simonton I'm looking at around $450/window and $800 on the preservation.

Sorry for rambling on so long, but all your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Liz

Preservation is an Alside "private label". Just search Alside on the forum to get the general consensus on that product. The Gorell 5100 is an excellent choice and one of my fav's, the Simonton is nice as well. Either will equal or better the Plygem offering.

Forget about Alside, I'd vote Gorell but either will serve you fine.

Both Gorell and Simonton are better choices than any Alside product IMO.

Thanks everyone for your input. I've got a call in to the Gorell dealer, so hopefully I'll get that quote this morning or tomorrow.
