Sunrise V Model vs Simonton 5500 vs Wincore 7700

#1 Post by vbf2 »

I've been pricing contractors in the Central New Jersey area to replace 14 Double Hung Windows at my home.

The prices of the installed windows I've whittled down to the follow:

Sunrise V Model $13,200
Simonton 5500 = $9,995
Wincore 7700 = $7,570

The contractor for the Sunrise seems to run a very professional operation and has a lot of positive reviews online.

The contractor for the Simonton Install has been around since the late 40's. Currently, their main business seems to be exporting to Bermuda. They have a dozen or so of positive reviews on Google.

The contractor for the Wincore are general contractors who does various types of Home Improvement projects besides windows.

Any opinions on whether these pricings seem fair, and which ones would you consider?

Given materials prices and overhead, I don't know how you stay in business at the Wincore quoted price. Honest to goodness question.

The Simonton is a solid window as is the Sunrise. Just depends on what the premium is worth to you.

+1... I didn't even realize Wincore was still around, and at that price someone likely won't be for long.

I like the higher end Sunrise lines better than Simonton, but you could certainly do worse.

Hi HomeSealed, Windows on Washington

Thanks for the great insights! Just what I was looking for!

From what I read in other posts here, most people would prefer the Sunrise V Model (I'm assuming the V Model is similar to the Vanguard) to the Simonton 5500. But I'm wondering if they are really worth the extra $230 per window or does it just come down to personal preference?

It is worth the difference.
The 5500 is flimsy and drafty.

Then would you say that $940 is a reasonable price for the Sunrise V Model double hung window?

Im shocked Wincore is still around. I am also not a fan of simonton. I like the sunrise V class much better.
Have you looked at Okna Windows or even Soft Lite? You may want to take a look as most of the guys here seem to really endorse the Okna product and see there is a dealer thats available by you. I have heard the Okna lead times are much better than sunrise.

The Sunrise would be my choice, however Sunrise is taking forever to have their products manufactured. The Simonton dealer is a long time respected colleague of many of us on this forum. He may offer some other options, not sure brand wise? Wincore are horrible. Contractors like them because they're about the cheapest window out there with a "motor oil is motor oil" mentality. I've installed all of those series by the way in the past.

vbf, just noticed your location. If AGM Windows in East Hanover services your area, you'd be well-served by calling them. The owner is a regular contributor here, great products (Okna) and company.
