Re: Windows for Atlanta area home
OK.. so I have all my estimates now. They are as follows:
Got another quote yesterday. So now my quotes are:
Okna 500 - $18,277.00
Okna 600 - $18,849.00
Okna 800 - $19,399.00
Soft-lite Elements - 22,150.00
Vytex Fortis - $16,425.00
The main difference between the Okna 800 that I was initially leaning towards and the Vytex Fortis is the air infiltration rate. 0.01 for Okna 800 and 0.04 for the Fortis. Is the difference worth the $2,974.00 difference? The installers for both seem to be identical in terms of their reviews and what / how they said they will do the installation. In addition, the installer for the Fortis was recommended by the Houston Window Experts. I contacted them after watching some of their videos on youtube.
The product and installer warranties seem to be identical. Anything else I should consider?
What do you guys recommend?
Thanks again for your help!

Fortis and 800 aren't really the comparative equivalents. You would need to look at the 500 vs. the Fortis with an additional performance nod going the direction of the 500 in that head to head.
Re: Windows for Atlanta area home
WoW Thanks!
I understand Fortis and 800 are not in the same class. Before I got the estimate for Fortis I was going to go with the 800 since the cost difference between it and the others isn't much. When I got the estimate for Fortis I started to think if the difference in AI is enough to still stay with the 800. Hence the question. Thanks for your reply.

+1 to WoW's comments. I'd probably stick with the 800 for the same reason that you were leaning that direction in the first place. Its the best window on your list and the price is very reasonable. As he also mentioned, while the Fortis is good, the performance advantage still tilts in the direction of the 500 series IF you were inclined to opt for a more cost effective choice.

Great choice, you will be happy with that window for many years.

In a vinyl insert window the 800DX is our favorite.
As for lead times: we are so busy that we tell everyone with our first contact that it is 5-6 months before your install. That is not the MFG lead time, that is our install lead time. Logistics are crazy regardless and subject to change at any time.
Not like the old days.

That is exactly what we found. The lead time for the windows from Okna is about 12 weeks. The installer's first opening to install them is 20 weeks +.
Re: Windows for Atlanta area home
It is crazy to be booking out 24 weeks, but that’s where we are as well. Quality sealants are going to be the next thing in short supply from what I’m hearing. Start stocking up.

Re: Windows for Atlanta area home
I am curious to hear whether the install took 20 weeks? How did it go?
I am also in ATL and getting quotes for a 45 window house. I would love to know which contractor you used (if that is allowed). I had a guy recently quote me nearly $800/window for builder grade MI 1650s! A great contrast to your $19,399 quote for 30 Okna 800s ($646/window). Or, $610/window average for Okna 500s.
Thank you.

Not usually a good idea to attempt to compare quotes without some context (both time, geography, and work scope details).

I like the 800DX the best, would put the Vytex Potomax next.
We are currently scheduling installs for March 2022. Besides that nothing seems to go as planned.
