Window Recommendations in the Deep South?

#1 Post by Window Akimbo »

Looking for some advice on finding good vinyl windows in central AL. It appears the favored brand here on the forum is Okna, but Im in a wasteland, only thing local I can find is Provia Endure and maybe Sierra Pacific. Looking for noise reduction primarily.
Thanks!

Just found someone out of town that carries MI (Sunrise) Restorations and Vanguard lines and they are willing to travel, that may be the ticket. 5 yr old company.

Don't love a 5 year old company, but it's a good sign that they are carrying a high quality product.

found a 60 yr old / acquired 8 yrs ago company that will do MI Sunrise Vanguard but not Restorations.

What reasons are the Sunrise lines preferred over say the MI 1620 replacement? Specs seem similar. Better PG for MI 1620, better Air Infiltration for Restorations.

School me!

Got some quotes:

Company A -
6-10 yr old company, National Chain
Provia Endure Triple Pane
10 Double Hung and 1 picture
Caulks in window, no low expansion foam or backer rod
~$9800

Company B -
5 yr old company, super super professional.
MI 1620
2 laminated windows (1 casement) , 8 offset/noise reduction window, 1 garden window
Uses low expansion foam/ acoustic foam/ backer rod, then caulk for install.
~$15400

Company C -
35 yr old company, good-ol'-boys
MI Sunrise Vanguard V4500
2 laminated windows (1 casement) , 8 offset/noise reduction window, 1 garden window
Also mentioned only caulking in window when I asked about install, I could probably insist on low expansion foam being used.
~$15600

Can you re-post the information without the garden window if they line item'ed it? The reality is that they are super expensive and that will drive price, by a good bit.

For sure WoW! Thanks for pitching in

Quotes with garden window removed and a DH substituted in its place:

Company A -
6-10 yr old company, National Chain
Provia Endure Triple Pane
10 Double Hung and 1 picture
Caulks in window, no low expansion foam or backer rod
~$9800

Company B -
5 yr old company, super super professional.
MI 1620
2 laminated windows (1 casement) , 9 offset/noise reduction windows (DH/SH)
Uses low expansion foam/ acoustic foam/ backer rod, then caulk for install.
~$13400

Company C -
35 yr old company, good-ol'-boys, but they are the only sunrise dealer in the area and have had a long relationship with sunrise.
MI Sunrise Vanguard V4500
2 laminated windows (1 casement) , 9 offset/noise reduction windows (DH/SH)
Also mentioned only caulking in window when I asked about install, I could probably insist on low expansion foam being used.
~$13100

Company C sounds like an easy choice.

Best window of the bunch (Vanguard is very similar to Restorations btw), and the profile of the company sounds closest to ideal as well.

+1 to HomeSealed comment.

Definitely the front runner product and generally speaking, a good commentary on a company when they use a good window as well.
