It is happening out West as well - Milgard just closed it's Marysville, WA plant JeldWen pulled out of Sacramento, CA and Urban Machinery has closed its West Coast Operations in Oregon.
These are extremely tough times for all.

Re: "Best" window for blocking heat?
Even more important than which window you choose, is the glass package that you choose. Cardinal Loe366 is very good at blocking solar heat gain with very little color change. It is quite popular out here in the West. However, if you count on the winter sun to warm up your house in the winter, this ...

Energy Surcharges
Good Afternoon Everyone, Does anyone know of any window manufacturers that are now adding energy surcharges to their pricing? All glass suppliers have been doing this for some time, but now it has gotten even worse. For example, just today I had a supplier raise their prices 10% and on top of that a...

Hi Citygirl, The story you tell is all too familiar with some West Coast Sales Organizations. Here are some performance numbers to compare. Simonton sells different products depending on location, with different products for the East and West Coast. From a brief time on the window websites, and AAMA...

Good Morning Jeff, The new California Wildland Firecodes that will go into effect require that ONE pane of the insulated unit be tempered. It can be either the inboard or outboard pane. Which pane you choose to temper should be associated with where you want to put the Loe coating. In general, in Ca...

You are so right, Window 4U. I know of the work of some extruders in testing this material. They purchased products from Home Depot (vinyl) that were made in China and found lead in the products. Apparently lead is used to lubricate the extrusion equipment (its cheaper) and some of it leaches into t...

You are absolutely correct when you conclude that there are many variations in the RESFEN program. For example, you can even choose window and glazing packages for the specific elevations of the house to achieve maximum energy savings. The research I posted was intended only to analyze general trend...

Loe 172 and 272 are one and the same. Cardinal has changed their name in the last year with the introduction of Loe 366. I did some research on the topic of Loe-366 performance. It does just what it says it will, reduce solar heat gain. Using the RESFEN 5 program from Lawrence Berkeley National Labo...
